Prince Of Persia Creator's Memoir Is Available To Preorder At Amazon
Two other memoirs covering the development of Karateka and Prince of Persia are also available for purchase.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has garnered rave reviews, including a 9/10 score from GameSpot. The Lost Crown returns the series to its side-scrolling roots in the form of a sprawling metroidvania. The new game isn't the only Prince of Persia-related content arriving this year, though. Series creator Jordan Mechner will soon be releasing memoir. Titled Replay: Memoir of an Uprooted Family, the boo is available to preorder at Amazon ahead of its March 19 release.

Unlike many memoirs, which are all text, Mechner is releasing a graphic memoir. The 320-page hardcover is filled with illustrations by the game designer, as he tells the story of his and his family's lives. This intergenerational memoir spans 100 years and covers key moments in history that shaped his family, including their experiences during World War I and when they became refugees during the Nazi occupation of France in World War II. It also covers Mechner's own personal life upon returning to France in 2015. As you'll see below in a post shared by Mechner on X, the creation of Prince of Persia is also present in the memoir.
In 1988, I conceived @princeofpersia as a game with no combat, only traps. My friend Tomi bugged me to add swordfighting...

Mechner has released a few other books over the years, including deep dives into the development of Prince of Persia and Karateka. What makes these books so compelling is that they're pulled from journals Mechner kept as he was making his games, meaning they offer a remarkable firsthand experience of what it was like behind the scenes.
- The Making of Prince of Persia: Journals 1985 - 1993 -- $17
- The Making of Karateka: Journals 1982-1985 -- $17
Both of these journals are available right now, so consider giving one a look as you wait for Mechner's memoir to arrive in March. Of course, you should also check out the new game, which is available to purchase for $50.
