The Nintendo Switch continues to soar and it's now reached a huge new sales milestone. The hybrid console has surpassed the lifetime sales of the Xbox 360 in the United States.

The milestone came in November, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella said. The PS2 and the Nintendo DS are the top two best-selling systems ever, in that order, meaning Switch is now No. 3 all time in the United States. The NPD does not disclose specific sales numbers, however.

According to Nintendo's public data, the DS has sold more than 154 million units globally. The exact number of PS2 units sold worldwide isn't immediately clear, but it's believed to be even more than the DS.

The Switch, meanwhile, has sold 132 million units worldwide so far, and that doesn't count any systems sold during the Black Friday shopping season or the general holiday season that's known to be a major sales period for all consoles.
