Add an ingredient to the Goalie Brew in Ottawa

As I began watching tonight's game versus the Trashers on the SportSouth, I was taken by surprise when I saw a painted goalie mask for the Sens' goalie in the pre-game. I was fooled into thinking that Martin Gerber finally got accustomed to his new mask by Brian Elliot.
For whatever reason, Elliot is listed as #7 on www.hockeysfuture.com website on the Sens' Top Prospects chart. After his stellar game today which included a few highlight reel saves he is sure to move up on the said chart.

Emery re-signed, now what?

With GM Murray doing a fantastic job getting Ray Emery signed to a semi-long term deal, we are only left to wonder what exactly is going on behind the scenes.
- Wade Redden blocked a trade
- Dany Heatley is rumoured to be re-signed
- Martin Gerber, who wants out of Ottawa, is apparently untradeable
The latest estimates are the Sens will have roughly $5 million left over in cap space for the upcoming year. With most teams already at their self-imposed or at the league's salary cap, play

Peter Schaefer traded

GM Brian Murray did a great job at unloading salary and getting another depth player up front in Shean Donovan. It's expected that Donovan, a career role player, will be slotted along side of McAmmond and either Brian McGrattan or, as I expect, Dany Bois on the 4th line. Donovan will most likely kill penalties with either McAmmond or Fisher (to replace Schaefer).
Our PK units line up as follows:
1. Vermette-Kelly (quickly turning into this decade's Maltby-Draper combo)
2. McAmmond-Alfr

Well it's that time of the year again. We had a lot of good discussion in last year's thread and I expect the same will happen this year.
Our Senators are coming off their best modern-era season. Unfortunately they still came up short in the end. With a ton of young stars in the making, the future is remains bright in Ottawa. Eugene Melnyk has already said that he's willing to spend to the cap to ensure the Senators remain competitive. Some fans tend to disagree with this approach, since the

Season ends... not early for once just not the way

This is my first Ottawa Senators Off-season Rant of the year.
The following day, I am not upset. Straight from Game 1's 3rd period collapse, I secretly knew that the Sens were not winning this series even though I put a brave face to anyone that said differently.
Some will say that the Sens imploded. Others will say they lacked leadership and desire to win. But the reality is Anaheim did everything they needed to do to win. They got solid goaltending, their defence was rock solid and

The Senators are the Eastern Conference Champions!
Finally the Senators Organization is able to shed the title of chokers. Finally the captain Daniel Aflredsson is playing at his highest level during the playoffs. Finally the supporting cast are coming through when Big 3 aren't able. Finally!!!
The players are being serenaded as heroes and for the City of Ottawa at least they are.
Bring on the West!

Wow... that's about all that I can say.
Never has the Scotia Bank Place been so electric. Never has the team actually surpassed our expectations. Never have the City and Fans accross Canada been so behind the Ottawa Senators.
The team concept that has been stressed all year. The back checking by players like Heatley. The penalty killing and relentless work of McAmmond and Fisher. The blocked shots by Phillips, Volchenkov and Redden! The Sens are finally looking like a true contender

Pre-feelings to Round 2
|

In nearly an exact repeat of last year's first round, the Ottawa Senators won their first round series in 5 games. The Pittsburgh Penguins put up a much greater fight than the Tampa Bay Lightning did last year however they simply could not match the Senators' offense depth nor could Crosby break free from Volchenkov and Phillips.
Round 2 will once again prove to be a much tougher task for Ottawa this year. A lot of people have been writing off the Senators because of what happened in 2003.
