This is my first Ottawa Senators Off-season Rant of the year.
The following day, I am not upset. Straight from Game 1's 3rd period collapse, I secretly knew that the Sens were not winning this series even though I put a brave face to anyone that said differently.
Some will say that the Sens imploded. Others will say they lacked leadership and desire to win. But the reality is Anaheim did everything they needed to do to win. They got solid goaltending, their defence was rock solid and their best players were definitely as expected. Ottawa was the best the Eastern Conference had to offer and quite frankly, I don't know if they would have made it past Round 2 in the West.
Kudos to Anaheim, you deserve it!
I also feel for Chris Phillips who had a wonderful season end in such a poor fashion. Nothing was working for him in Game 5 and I sincerely hope he doesn't blame himself for the loss. We wouldn't had made it this far without his poise and tireless work ethic and nobody better be placing the blame on his shoulders now.
I'm glad I was able to experience a Stanley Cup run in my hometown. I was in attendance for Game 1 of the series and was awed by the spectacular crowd. As I pointed out in an early entry, I was there for Game 7 against New Jersey in 2003, I was there for Game 5 last year against Buffalo, I was there with the putrid 17.7K in attendance for Colorado earlier this season. And now I am glad that the Sens finally gave me and the rest of their fans a high to celebrate.
Thank you Senators! I'll be there again next year!
