Hi everyone, ready for the low down on effective passing? Well i am, and it has only taken about 50 INT, 100 sacks and a lot of choice words to finally figure out some stuff on the turf.
First of all, it all comes down to the way you play. I was all about the option, but then i started to focus more on my Madden play then NCAA. So i now have focused my game plan on more of a madden approach since i wont be playing NCAA much longer. So no more options for SkylerStan2007 (well not as my base ;-) )
So in this long slow, and very very.....let me repeat that again....very painful process i have developed a way to attack every passing down with more and more confidence.
First, learn what routes work, and dont work. Yeah Kyle Copper came up with the curl route, but you must User it for it to be fully effective. Now dont get me wrong, i am not a person to degrade ones work. I am sure my work is looked down upon like i have no idea what i am talking about. But from playing football all of my life, and playing football in college, and understanding the game of NCAA and Madden, curls only work when you can throw the ball with your feet planted, and the DB on his heels. Know what routes work, and where to throw the ball. If you run a fade to the sideline, dont throw it over his inside shoulder, thats a stupid pass, and you deserve the INT. Play smart and you will receive a much better turn out of your players. Football is a game of who can make the least mistakes, so don't do mistakes that are easily avoided.
Passing is an art, not something that is easily obtained. Routes need time to develop, and Timing on certain routes helps with success on the play. When you start to rush your throws, DB's will jump routes, break up catches, and possibly lay the Big hit and jar the ball lose. Learn to throw the ball away, it saves your bottom a lot. Live to play another down.
Nano's seem to be a big issue in this years NCAA so there are certain reads needed to go threw before a passing attempt. Look to see where the safeties are and were line backers are lined up. If there is a NT over top your center, and gaurds are head up, and a back with an aggressive stance behind the NT, where is the blitz coming from? Is it possible it might be right down your centers throat? I haven't seen the random blitz angle so, they gonna come threw the hole they are lined up over 60% of the time. So play your odds.
Help your play out by putting your FB or HB into a blocking left or right. But if you know that they are gonna blitz, be ready for the blitz!!
Sitting in the pocket can be a good and bad thing, since the pressure is so immense this year, you feel the need to roll out, and most the time, your tackle becomes your auntie down the street and run around with his thumb up his butt and misses or pushes the rusher into your path. So the pocket can collapse and force you to scramble, or roll out. Not the end of the world, Pump fake to send the defender into the air to bat the pass down. The pump fake also, makes the D hesitate for a millisecond and your can maybe get the step that is needed for your route.
Now on the routes your run, certain routes, will infact be a lot more useful then other, but those routes that dont seem to work, sure do have some value. Its called decoy routes, which every team has, and does on every play. But just because its a decoy route, doesnt mean shouldnt be in your read. Dont always look down field either, the deep ball is the easiest and most frequently jumped route in this years NCAA. DEEP Balls need to be User also, works best if you do. I have noticed that you dont have to press Y to catch the ball, just get position.
