NHL 2K8 not only marks the return of the dominating wrist shot but also introduces an overpowering deke as well. Today, Sportsgamer shows you how to use these two moves in tandem to devastating effect.
The premise is simple:
1. Approach the goalie from an angle
2. Deke to the opposite side of the crease when close
3. Aim for the far-upper corner on the shot
When you first start practicing this move you may want to use a very wide angle on your approach. This ensures that the goalie is positioned far to one side of the cease and will give the shooter a larger window to score. As you become more fluid with the motion, you can start using narrower approaches to make the execution even faster and the setup easier.
Wait as long as possible before executing the deke. The distance between the shooter and the goalie when executing the deke will determine the extent to which the scoring angle changes. As a general rule of thumb, try to hit the deke just after your skater crosses the face-off circle.
The examples used in the video are shown against “Rookie” difficulty but the move works exactly the same on harder settings as well. The only difference is that the AI controls spacing and checks much more effectively on harder difficulties. Although the move can be used in high traffic, it is probably best used on breakaway opportunities or if you have supreme skating skills to navigate past multiple defenders.
