NCAA Football 08 - 52 Normal - Flash Blitz

Check out how we use this zone blitz to turn up the heat!

The 52 Normal Flash Blitz is a zone defense that we've created to provide your right outside linebacker with an instant chance at getting after your opponent's quarterback. What's great about this zone is that the only weaknesses are in the flats, so if you get beat it will most likely be for a minimal gain. Watch as SportsGamer takes this play and turns up the pressure on the opposition with just a couple simple moves before the snap.

52 Normal - Flash Blitz (flipped)

Console(s)

XBOX 360 / PS3

Quick Setup

Step 1 - Shift the linebackers to the right (360 - RB + right / PS3 - R1 + right).

Step 2 - Manually move the blitzing right outside linebacker behind the defensive tackle and slightly to the right of the center.

SportsGamer tip: Consider substituting your fastest linebacker in at the right outside linebacker position to bring as much pressure as possible on your opponent.

Play Breakdown

In the first image you can see the defensive asisgnments for the 52 Normal Flash Blitz flipped. We begin setting up the pressure on this play by first shifting our linebackers to the right. You can see what the assignments should look like after you've taken the initial step in the second image.

The second and final step we take to setup the pressure is manually moving the blitzing right outside linebacker behind the defensive tackle and slightly to the right of the center. The image to the right provides a closer view of exactly what the defensive line should look like if you've set the play up correctly. Now we are ready to begin the play.

As soon as the quarterback takes the snap our blitzing right outside linebacker makes his break towards the A-gap just to the left of the center. The linebacker explodes through the opening and leaves the offense searching for an open target already.

The pressure from the defense was too intense for our opponent to be able to safely get rid of the ball in time, The end result is a loss of nearly 10 yards, setting up a third and long for the offense.

Final Thoughts

Anytime you're able to find a zone defense that provides good coverage and pressure it's worth using a few times a game. We would suggest manually controlling the free safety to roam the field with while the heat develops up front. You can also control either the defensive end or the blitzing strong safety, but the pressure up the middle will come in less often if you choose to do so. Work on perfecting the setup of this play in practice mode before taking into live action.
