Madden NFL 08 - Nickel Strong - FS Storm Slant 3

Discover good zone coverage and consistent pressure with the Storm Slant 3

When flipping the FS Storm Slant 3 zone defense you can create some consistent pressure on the right side of your opponent's offensive line. What's great about this play is the fact that the pressure doesn't always come from the same spot, so your opponent has always got to be aware of what's developing after the snap. Take a look below as SportsGamer breaks it down.

Play Breakdown

In the first image you can see the defensive assignments for the Strom Slant 3 play once it has been flipped.  The first step we take towards creating the pressure is pinching our defensive line down.

Next, we call for a fake blitz to place all our remaining defenders down closer towards the line of scrimmage.  The picture to the right allows you to see a close-up of exactly what the defensive setup should look like when you're ready to bring the pressure.  What's great about this defensive setup is that we could bring pressure from either side of the offensive line if we wanted to.  However, on this occasion we'll be bringing the heat from the right side of the line.

Immediately after the quarterback receives the snap the offensive line gets hit with an overload to the right.  The right guard engages with our left defensive end, while the blitzing nickelback gets picked up by the right tackle.  These two movements up front allow our blitzing strong safety to rush through the A-gap untouched as he makes his way to our opponents' backfield.

Our strong safety drags down the quarterback for a big loss on the play.

Final Thoughts

When running the Storm Slant 3 play flipped it's important to know that the strong safety won't always be the player responsible for placing pressure on your opponent.  You may find that sometimes the defensive end will come free, while other times it may be the nickelback.  Regardless, it's nice to know that the pressure will be coming from someone.  What's nice about the pressure coming from different players is that the play may now seem a bit more confusing to our opponent because he won't quite know who needs to be blocked on every down.  Discover good zone coverage and consistent pressure with the Storm Slant 3 flipped the next time you head into practice mode.
