Throw-ins can be great opportunities to score. However, too often I see guys that simply aren't thinking two passes ahead, which is costing them goals. Because FIFA gamers tend to work the sidelines often, often times you're going to see attacking throws in near the penalty box. The key to utilizing this opportunity is patience. You need to wait for things to develop, and you need to be able to capitalize when they do.
Quick Setup
Step 1 - When you have a throw in the attacking third - click the L1 / LB button to take control of a player in the field.
Step 2 - Move the player into the penalty box about 15-20 yards from the touchline, and try to get position in front of the defender.
Step 3 - Throw the ball in at full power by holding the Square / X button (PS3 / 360)
Step 4 - Hold L2 / Left Trigger to jockey for position when the ball is in the air
Step 5 - Tap the pass button while making sure the left analog stick is facing your opposite striker
Play Breakdown

Here we have earned a throw-in. Often times people are a little disappointed at having a throw-in. I look at it as an opportunity to score! The key is to take control of a player on the field and put them into position to flick the ball onto another striker. In the image to the right you can see four defenders across the back. I manually moved the attacker to the back post because the other striker was already on the near post. Notice he's wide open.

In the image to the left, the ball has left the thrower's hand. Now it's time to jockey for position to win the throw. The key is to hold the L2 / Left Trigger, and lean against the defender. Then, as the ball arrives, you need to push the left analog stick in the direction of the other attacker and tap the pass button (X / A). Notice in the image to the left the defender on the backside realizes he needs to cover the attacker on the far post. Then, in the image to the right you see the striker win the ball and flick it on.

From a reverse angle we see the ball going to the backside striker, and see that it's one-v-one. You won't always win the ball here, but when you do it's going to be a goal. Notice that we've outworked the defender to win the ball and are ready to put the ball into the back of the net.

He shoots, he scores. It's just that easy when you make a nice flick on and beat the defender to the ball.
Final Thoughts
Scoring from a throw is not easy, but too often I see guys try to trap the ball, or immediately try to score from a header. If you just think a couple passes ahead to can begin to create more scoring opportunities and make opponents pay for kicking the ball out of bounds.
