 | Skill Moves were the greatest addition to FIFA 08.
| | |
FIFA 08 has been out now for some time. It's a great game, no question about it. However, there are several areas where this title could use improvement. SportsGamer is going to break down some different aspects of FIFA 08, and explain how we feel FIFA 09 could improve upon the current version of FIFA. To do this, we're going to break down the game into three distinct categories: Gameplay, Online Play, and Manager Mode / Be a Pro. This is where your help is needed. Please give us your input and we will make sure EA has the opportunity to review it. It should help EA create an even better game for FIFA 09. What's Good About FIFA 08 FIFA 08 made dramatic improvements over FIFA 07. The removal of the rediculous through ball, and the top of the box chip shot were taken away, which instantly improved the game. In addition, the right stick turbo run was toned down to take away the absurdly fast speed bursts that were the norm in FIFA 07. However, the greatest improvement to FIFA 08 was the addition of the Skill Moves. These skill moves give each user the ability to be unique. Each gamer has the ability to put their personal touch onto the game. In addition, the skill moves aren't "essential" to the success of your team. Yes, they work. Yes, they can help you score goals. However, if you learn to be technically sound and pass the ball well, you don't "need" them. That gives the user the option to decide if they want to use the skill moves or not. Overall, the skill moves are a great addition to the game and add quite a bit of replay value to an already addictive game. Another upgrade that EA made to FIFA 08 from last year's title is the multiple league licenses' in the game. FIFA 08 added several more leagues than last year's version. This always makes for an enjoyable experience because it's fun to play with several different teams. I can't tell you the amount of hours I've spent breaking down the different leagues to find a team to play with. Adding to the fun of all the different leagues is the Achievement List which calls for the user to win Man of the Match accolades with players from leagues all over the world. This has led to me playing with teams from nearly every different league. I've evaluated all the substitutes on each roster to see if there were any hidden gems that I could insert into the starting lineup in order to make my team better. It's very rewarding to win a game with Norway's SK Brann while competing against teams like Barcelona! With over 500 teams in this year's game, there is always a way to make the game feel new and interesting. The most rewarding part of FIFA is how addictive it is. This can be both a blessing and a curse. If you have a family that requires your time, you might not want to start playing FIFA 08 because it can begin to consume all your free time. Games last only 10-15 minutes which is a great game length. Longer can get a bit boring, shorter can feel like you didn't have enough time to impose your strategy on the game. To relate FIFA 08 to Madden 08 - you can play 3 or 4 FIFA games in the time it takes to complete one game of Madden. In addition, FIFA 08 games can be so intense, and the flow of the game can change so dramatically through the course of the game. This leads to some frustration, but even more enjoyment. This short, intense burst of emotion while playing FIFA is very addictive. I find myself going through stages. At first it's pure enjoyment while I win some, lose some. Then I start to win a little more than I lose, and become more frustrated when I lose. Then, I become even better, and find myself pulling my hair out when I lose! Like I said, it can be frustrating, but it is immensely addictive, and I find that win or lose it's hard to put down the controller. Improvements for FIFA 09 - General The addition of so many teams between FIFA 07 and FIFA 08 was amazing. It really added to the enjoyment of the game. I think there are many people that would appreciate to see even more teams and leagues added to the game. In addition to adding more leagues, could we get more classic teams? The EA Madden title has Super Bowl teams from the past 40 years. I understand that there are some issues with using someone's likeness, but why not just give them a number and a rating. FIFA users can create names for the players later. It would be cool to have all the classic World Cup teams. Here are a couple more ideas to improve FIFA 09:
| This hard tackle from behind was awarded only a yellow card. Some gamers do this ALL game long. |
The Foul System - The foul system needs to be totally revamped. Here's the problem - there is no real consequence for blatantly fouling all game long. The worst part is that it's actually good strategy in the video game this year. When your opponent has an attack, often times gamers slide tackle the supporting player. The ref plays advantage and let's the play continue. The problem is now there is no one to pass to because your supporting player has been fouled. Often times even when you lose the ball no foul is called. Many gamers don't even let the opposition start an attack. They simply foul immediately when their opponent gets the ball. Sometimes yellow cards are awarded, but not often enough. Then, the gamer can use three subs to remove yellow carded players. I've actually played against people who have received 8 yellow cards in one game, without a red card. That's basically 8 attacking opportunities they were able to stop, without consequence. Free kicks are nice, but if they're not in shooting range all it does is let my opponent put their defense in position. Also, many gamers have figured out that as long as they're not the last defender, they won't receive a red card until the second yellow. This needs to change. If a user slide tackles a player that doesn't have the ball, and isn't within 5 meters of the ball, they should be red carded - or at least yellow carded after the play is over. Don't let the advantage rule stop the referee from giving yellow cards. In addition, there needs to be a system where slide tackle fouls are added up. If this happens too often the referee needs to go directly to red for some players. It's just not at all in the spirit of the game to have users slide tackle to stop the flow of the play ALL game long.
Commentary - More commentary would be nice. Maybe not more, but more diverse. "He speculated, and almost accumulated". I love that line, but have only heard it a handful of times. "He bought a raffle ticket and almost won!". I just heard that today for the first time. Those are great lines. However, there are other lines that simply drive you crazy after awhile. Why is it that every time Wright-Phillips gets the ball we have to hear how he's "a real bundle of energy". The commentary is amazing on FIFA 08. I'd just like to see it even better in FIFA 09. Yes, this is a small thing, but it would be just another small addition to an already great game. Weather! - How fun would it be to play in the pouring rain, or better yet snow! This would be another factor that would make the game exciting. Other EA titles even utilize the weather channel to play the game in the conditions of the location of that particular game. Could this be an option? More Uniforms - I really like how we have the option to purchase 3rd kits for certain teams this year. I find myself collecting all of them, even though most I haven't ever used. What would be nicer would be to have the option to purchase more kits for a particular team. Maybe even throwback jerseys. In Madden a couple years ago, there were 9 Atlanta Falcon jerseys. I'd like to see more uniforms for FIFA as well, even if we have to purchase them with points. I miss Arsenal's yellow jersey. How about Manchester United's blue? The more uniforms we can have access to the more we can feel unique when playing. Please, give us more uniforms. Practice Mode - The Arena Mode is kind of cool, but we need practice. I'd love to be able to work on set pieces. Work on passing techniques. Work on dribbling moves. Practice mode is the only practical way to do this. The button sequences in FIFA 08 are so elaborate, and the opportunity to actually use some of these skills are limited in game. By adding a practice mode there would be a much higher level of play being displayed for FIFA 09. Improvements for FIFA 09 - Gameplay As noted above, I've broken down the areas of improvement into three categories. My personal opinion is that gameplay is always the most important aspect of any game to improve so I will start with it. Goalkeepers - I wanted to start with the keeper play because at times it is absolutely horrendous. With that said, it is improved over last year's game, so that is a step in the right direction, but it needs to continue to improve. Here are some key issues where keeper play should be improved: GK's: Near Post Play - Keepers get beat to the near post with regularity this year. It doesn't matter at all what the rating of the keeper is. Even the best keepers get pulled out of position with the simple side dribble of the attacker this year. This is extremely frustrating because often times the angle of the shot isn't great. Especially since it is the keeper's responsibility NOT to get beat to the near post. On shots across the keeper's body, they do seem to play well, and ratings do matter. However, the AI needs to be changed to be more realistic toward the near post angle the keeper takes.
GK's: Coming Out Against the Through Ball - Last year, when the user held the triangle / Y button, the keeper would attack the ball no matter where it was. For some reason this year the keeper will come out and simply stop. If a through ball gets dropped on about the 20 - 24 meter line, the keeper will stop at the edge of the penalty box and watch as the attacking player runs onto the ball and proceeds to score. Other times, even with a through ball played INSIDE the penalty box, the keeper won't come out to make a play on the ball, even when I'm holding the Triangle button. Users need more control over their keeper. If we want to bring them out, let us bring them out. GK's: Free Kicks - Users should be able to take control of their keeper on free kicks to move the keeper left or right to put him in position. This should add another level of strategy in free kick taking. Right now, if you can put the ball over the wall, the keeper has little chance of a save. However, as a free kick taker there is virtually no chance of beating the keeper to the far post. I'd like to see more of a cat and mouse game between the keeper and the kick taker in regards to what corner is attacked. No reaction to certain balls in the box - At times the keeper seems like he has no clue where the ball is, and will simply not react to the ball at all in his box, and let the attacker knock the ball in from INSIDE the 6 meter box. Please fix the reaction time for the keeper in this regard.
GK's: Where am I? - At times the keeper seems like he has no clue where the ball is, and will simply not react to the ball at all in his box, and let the attacker knock the ball in from INSIDE the 6 meter box. Please fix the reaction time for the keeper in this regard. Field Players - The main improvement I'd like to see for the field players in FIFA 09 is their ability to actually know where the ball is at all times. Too often goals are conceded because it's impossible to clear the ball becuase players are standing around in the way of clearing the ball, but without a clue where the actual ball is. I would like to see these players open themselves up to receive passes, or at least move out of the way for other passes to be made. Often times I will have three defenders in the area of the ball, and I will tackle the ball manually with one of the defenders. However, my other two players box me in and play defense on me. GET OUT OF THE WAY. Open up to receive a pass. At least 20% of the goals I concede are just misplayed by my defenders. They just don't understand where the ball is. It's so frustrating to concede this way, and it isn't rewarding to score from this either. Every time I score a goal because of it I simply shrug my head in disgust. This needs to be fixed.
In addition to players not knowing where the ball is, there needs to be something done to give the user more control of their player, quicker. Too often I try to click on a different defender and simply can't do it. Or I can click on a different player, but the computer controls that player. I need more control. The more you can give control to the user, the better. There is nothing more frustrating that being just out of reach for a ball but not being able to manually control the player closest to the ball. There needs to be some tweaking of the controls to allow quicker switching of players, with quicker manual control. The passing controls can also be a bit difficult and inaccurate. Too often I am pushing one direction of the analog stick but the pass goes to the wrong player. I'm not sure how this can be corrected but it would be great to get slightly better accuracy on the passing controls. I'm nitpicking a little bit here, but it is an area that can be improved. In-Game Strategies - I really enjoy the in-game strategies such as the team press. However, I'd like to see more in-game strategies incorporated into the game. This gives the gamers that appreciate more strategy than simply button pressing more options. It would be nice to have some different options available in the pause menu that we can set on our d-pad. So maybe we can only still use four different strategies, but we can choose from a list of 8? Also, the switch from offsides trap from FIFA 07 to FIFA 08 was a dissapointment in my opinion. The offsides trap was much more effective in 07. I know you have allocated the button to a different function now, but can we get the old offsides trap back. It's just too inconsistent in 08 and the timing is quite off. For those of you who don't remember, in FIFA 07 there was a button that you could hold, and while holing your defense would push up in a trapping position, and when you let go they would drop back. This gives the user quite a bit more control of the defensive back line. That would be a welcomed addition to FIFA 09. It would have to be somewhere other than the d-pad preferrably, because the d-pad isn't a great location to hold the button. | | We'd love to be able to pass the ball 360 degrees on free kicks.
| Please, more tactics. They can really help give the user more control. |
Set Pieces - I think we've all heard quite a bit about the kick off play where users simply shoot directly off the kickoff. I don't think it is a huge problem, but probably should be addressed slightly. In addition, corner kicks this year simply seem so odd. There are times that the ball comes in like a GPS guided missile directly to the attacker's head. I don't mind that, because guys really can put corners in that well. The problem is that defensively you can know exactly where the ball's going to go, stand right there, and for some reason get moved out of the way before the ball arrives. Please give us better tools to defend against this type of corner. I understand that corners are good goal scoring opportunities, and they should be. But there needs to be a better system than the current corner kick. In regards to free kicks, I do like them, but I'd like to see a 360 degree option to pass the ball. It's just too easy for the defense to steal the ball if you try to pass it. I'd also like to see a better bluff mode. I know you can bluff, but not that convincingly if you're playing a live opponent. Overall the free kicks are pretty good though. Throw-Ins - These can be so frustrating. Can we please have a way to throw the ball quicker. Also, when I have a throw-in in the defensive third of the field, I think I might just rather throw the ball out of bounds and give my opponent a throw-in because it's nearly impossible to not have the ball stolen. Let me have an option to just throw the ball as far as I can down the sideline. When I try now, it makes the ball go to the nearest offensive player. The problem is that my opponent can see where I'm throwing, and while my player is trying to trap the ball it's stolen. Is a defensive throw-in really one of the opposing team's best scoring opportunities in real life?
Offside Dummies - It is extremely frustrating to watch my attackers make runs into offsides positions so often. However, I can live with that. The problem is that if I accidentally make a pass to a player that I know is in an offsides position, I want to click off of him and let him NOT play the ball. Why am I locked onto the player? Why can't I tell the player to leave the ball alone. This would prevent the whistle from being blown and let the flow of the play continue. It's just too hard at times to time the pass to keep the attacker onsides. With that said, I don't want the entire play to be negated because of it. Let me click off the player or at least move the player away from the ball.
Improvements for FIFA 09 - Online Play This is the area in which I feel the bulk of the improvement needs to be made. Right now, online play is a bit of a mess. This isn't entirely EA's fault either. Part of the issue is that FIFA is played worldwide, and the servers are trying to connect people in Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, South America and North America. This is no small task but we have to be able to get better connections. I'm sure this is being worked on. The issue is, and EA knows it, the better the online connection gets, the more enjoyable this game is to play. Especially for someone like me, who doesn't have any friends locally to play the game with. I rely on online games to play FIFA. Hopefully FIFA 09 will see an improvement of the servers. In addition to the server issues, there are some social networking issues as well. I'm talking about the PlayStation Network here. I'm playing FIFA 08 on the PS3, and the PlayStation Network is terrible. I don't think this is EA's fault. I'm pretty sure it's Sony's fault. However, EA needs to try to find ways to work around such a bad network. Here's the major problem in the PS3: You can't send a message to a person without quitting the game and going to the PSN dashboard. Hello? Does anyone else find this annoying? I know this isn't EA's doing, but there has to be some way that we can communicate other than quitting our game. One reason is that most people, after playing someone, either like or dislike that person. If they like them and want a rematch, it can be nearly impossible to find them again in a lobby. If EA can't fix the communication problem, give us a 'Rematch' option. Ask both players if they want a rematch after the game has ended. If both players say yes, put them into another game. At least this way we can play people we enjoy playing without having to quit the game to send them a message. Here are some other online ideas to improve FIFA 08: No Quitting - Don't have a 'Quit before 15 minutes and the game won't count' rule. Make it the following: Quit before 15 minutes with the score TIED and the game won't count. This way if there is bad lag a user can drop a game. Friendly Quit - In the pause menu, have a 'Friendly Quit' option. This would be anytime in the game, you can offer to 'Friendly Quit' with your opponent. If both users agree, the game quits and doesn't count. This would account for the fact that sometimes there is bad lag that doesn't start until later in the game. This gives some flexibility to the users if this happens. Friendly Quit's should not effect a user's DNF%.
Concede Match - In the pause menu, offer a 'Concede Match' option if you're losing in the second half. It's sometimes a waste of time for someone to finish a game in which they're getting blown out. This gives the user a bit more flexibility in dropping games without being labeled a 'quitter'. This also should not count against the DNF%.
Created Formations - Allow users to use created formations online. Created formations and team mentality are very critical to uniqueness in FIFA. It would be amazing to see how many different custom formations we would see. Any way you look at it, there are still 11 players per side, so this shouldn't lead to any type of cheating.
Pre-Set Strategies - Let users save their substitutions and load them in game. Often times users make dramatic changes to their lineup before games. It would be great to let a user save these changes offline, and load them online to save time before each match. Again, this is another option of convenience.
DNF% - When choosing the 'Quick Ranked Match' option, I'd like the ability to see my opponent's rank and DNF% right there.
More Custom Rooms - Because the PSN is so bad, create more rooms like the 'Advanced' room, but have different levels for it. So level 1 should have their own room. Then level 2-5 should have a room. Then levels 5-12 should have a room. Then level 13-19 should have a room. Then the Advanced room of 20+. This is just a better way to ensure that we're getting even competition. Also, there is a better likelyhood of finding your opponent in the room you came from after a game so we can chat.
Quick Tournament Mode - Add 'Quick Tournament Mode' online. It would be amazing if we could have quick tournaments where 8-16 people joined, and we played an opponent. Then, the winners were immediately taken to the next round against another opponent. It would be a 3 or 4 round tournament. Users could receive trophies to tournament wins. Another cool option to let users play a series of games against competition that was getting harder each round.
Who's my Opponent Using? - Why can't we see who our opponent is clicked on? That should be in the game because it would more closely mimic the offline game. In addition, I like to know who my opponent is controlling because it may dictate who / when I pass the ball.
Guest Mode - Take out the 'Guest' mode. I was unaware of what this was for some time. Now I've found that it's playing 2v1. Why is that even allowed in a ranked game? If users want to play multi-player games, create a seperate mode for that. Don't let users trick others into a game where they are forced to play 2v1. Above are a handful of ideas that would significantly improve the online experience of most FIFA users. Hopefully EA can add most of these options to the upcoming version of the game. Next, we explore the last aspect of FIFA 09.
Improvements for FIFA 09 - Manager Mode / Be a Pro Mode This mode of play is one that I simply can't give the best feedback on. I've played the Manager Mode through a few seasons, but to be honest I haven't had enough experience with it to really judge it. This is where user feedback is important. Please add feedback as to how EA can improve this area of the game. SportsGamer will be collecting your ideas and laying them out in a very easy to read document that we will be sending to EA. EA wants our opinions, and our voice will dictate changes in the game. Make sure your voice is heard by leaving feedback in this article. You can leave feedback for any of the topics you think would help improve the FIFA 09 title. We will make sure this gets into the hands of the producers and hopefully FIFA 09 will continue to improve as it did between 07 and 08.

Manager mode improvements:
- Pre-season friendlies
- day-by-day simulation (manual simulation) like in NHL series
plus of course all the little things that are in the currentgen's manager mode!

Manager Mode Improvements:
-Auto Best 11 (if Madrid bought Drogba they wouldn't bench him)
-CPU Players without stamina are benched
-Realistic transfers (no more Ronaldinho to League 1 or Kaka in free agents)
-More fatigue influence (if someone is 0% stamina it should show and they should get injured easier)
-More injuries
-Pre-season friendlies and transfers
-Make it so you can set up transfer days on the calender so it won't skip 2 weeks if there's no match
-Higher budgets (it's fine for 5 star teams, but lower teams sometimes don't have enough for both staff and transfers)

-when they do the updated rosters put the released players in the free agent pool
-a create a team mode, just like fifa07

This is for gameplay:
When a player is recieving a pass sometimes he is waiting for the ball or on these kind of auto lines. There should be a 'total freedom button' where you can take the player recieving the pass off all restrictions so he can get the pass.
Also, for manual through balls, if I'm passing accross the field to my far winger and I hold it down long enough, why does it lock on to my centre while he chases the pass down to the side while my winger just stands there and ignores it?

Who's my Opponent Using? -
i disagree with that. Not being able to see who's being controlled is a great tactic i often use. If people know which player im in control of, then they will always run towards the a.i as there's a much greater chance of beating him.
i often use 2 or sometimes 3 defenders to crowd my opponent, and when they charge forward they have no idea which one im controlling.

But that isn't realistic to playing someone live is it? If you're playing them live you know who they're using, right?

I think that they should add a superstar mode like in Madden.Where you can create a player and try to make him one of the elite players in the world.

Why did they take the through ball away? That was my best move. I loved the through ball!

I don't have 08 but in 07 I do not like the stats. I would like to see career stats for my players, and game by game updates. So then if a player of mine gets the record it gets the record changed.

The main think that i would like changed is the players attributes as they dont seem to actually have any effect. for instance players speed ratings dont actually make much of a diference. i often find ronaldo or quaresma getscaught down the wing by a slow full back.
another point is there should be more accesories. for instance players like ronaldo and adebayor have alot of white around there ankles bu all we have on fifa 08 is a whie strap. and also there should be nikepro/underarmour kind of top to be worn under the original strip. a lot more boots to choose from would also be nice.
the main thing though that i would like changed is the players attributes as they dont seem to actually have any effect.

To the guy above me:
There needs to be a balance in player attributes. Offline, the CPU can have 1 speed compared to Ronaldo's 95 speed and still catch up. However when you're online C. Ronaldo can just run from end to end because of his speed.
They also need the right balance between physical and technical stats. Players like Figo are useless in this game. In real life, he can still beat plenty of defenders even though he lost his speed due to age. His dribbling and ball control is stil there.
Strength has to be fixed too. As strong as Rooney and Tevez are, I don't think they should be able to push around defenders in this game so easily. Either this or defenders need to take more advantadge of strength.

I would like to see a few more stadiums. The Bernabeau, La Bombanera, and Maracana (all missing this year) are to soccer what Madison Square Garden is to basketball.

Manager Mode:
-after every game there should be a front page newspaper with many articles about your game and also other news throughout all leagues. wouldnt it be cool to hear what the managers thought about their teams and matches.
-the ability to create a new stadium in the off-season and be able to add tvs and such things like in madden.
-after every year you could create new uniforms for your teams because after a several years they get old.
be a pro:
-i think it would be cool if it was similar to the madden be a pro mode.controling your player on and off the field by choosing his shoes and even if he wanted a haircut.
overall additions:
-many more stadiums. it would be nice that all the teams in the top leagues had their own stadium.
-better celebrations like in 2006 fifa world cup.
-more commentary from other commentators and even in spanish.
-more updates of player ratings during the season
Posted by:
on March 8, 2008, 6:04 pm
Also
-there should be referees during the game. they are there in the beginning announcements and during fouls committed but where do they go?
-when the ball goes out of bounds there is a cut to when the players are all ready. let the player run after the ball or have somebody throw him a new ball. challenge the defense to get back quickly to try to stop the break.
-the same for free kicks
-different weather

Correct foul decisions
Better keepers who catch the ball
AI not amazing at free kicks
Real refs

Be A Pro
-Career mode where you start out in a training session or travel club play and try to make a team based on your play in those games (similar to NCAA Football 08)
-Show runs you could make with on-field arrows
Gameplay
-make a diving system where there is a great risk/reward factor
-for instance: you have to hold down a button and you push the right analog stick in a direction. if you pushed it in the right direction with the right amount of force, the foul gets called. if it does not look realistic, then you get a yellow or red card.

Why does FIFA 08 for the Xbox 360 have Spanish text on the cover?? when there is no included "Spanish Commentary" in games. I would love to see "spanish commentary" included in the games for the ntsc us version.. After soccer/futbol truly is an international sport.... I love watching the games on univision spanish and also the World Cup Germany was great in Spanish. Your konami competitor PES has less features i.e no official teams, but yet still manages to include five different commentary languages in its ntsc us version every time it comes out. Or take the spanish text off of the box so I dont mistakenly pay 60.00 for a game I think is in spanish. Also why is there a Madden 08 game en espanol??. There is no football played in Mexico....

-A more in depth Be A Pro mode. Like NCAA's race to the Heisman.
-Tell what the injury is right away. If my player has a dislocated finger, please don't force me to sub him out. He'll man up.
-More stadiums and variety in weather would add a lot to the game.
-More languages of commentary. It's fun to listen to announcers speaking in the actual native language of where you're playing.
-Bring back the create a team option!
-I like the idea of being able to change jerseys every few years. Or maybe a download in the future when they are updated?
-Day by day simulation. Don't make me skip a week or two ahead, when I could still be making efforts at a signing.

This is my list from the FIFA-forum - I guess most of them were already mentioned, but I'm too lazy to sort them out ;-)
Bugs
1. the player selection sometimes doesn't work. This seems to happen, when a player is about to receive a ball and someone else is in his way. When the opponent intercepts the ball, you are not able to change the player (even not with the right analog stick), nothing happens unless the game is interrupted or the corresponding player reached the ball.
2. There is a goalkeeper animation where he raises his hands signaling a shot ball will be out. If somewhere the shot is intercepted or deflected the animation keeps on running and the ball easily hits the net because the animation has not finished yet and the goal keeper doesn't react therefore.
3. Sometimes when you hit the shoot button to clear a situation in the own penalty area the ball is cleared for a corner. That's nice, but sometimes the player / goalkeeper hammers the ball right into the own net, which obviously is dump.
4. If the two teams make a substition at the same time only the substitutions of one team are shown.
5. If the ball is travelling along the goal-line and a striker toe-pokes it in, it goes out for a goal kick after travelling through the net (this has happened four times now).
6. Another bug comes when you make a change on match day (start match, go to team selection), and swap a reserve into the starting line up - it ignores the change.
7. There is also a remarkably inept bug in the commentary, whereby when you miss the goal, the commentator praises the keeper for a marvellous save when all he did was watch it whistle by his post.
8. WHY HASN'T THE SCHEDULING BUG BEEN FIXED? I've banged on about this for five years now. If you're in three competitions (FA, European and League) it is possible to play two games on the same day, plus another two days later. This is a shoddy bug that makes no sense. How hard could it be to reschedule the league game? The FA manage it, and they're inept.
9. If you set the player names to be visible only above the players, the power bar sometimes is not visible during online play.
10. The goalkeeper positions himself on crossings wrong (nearly outside the goal) which results in many unnecessary goals. Problem with illustration here:
Goalkeeper AI problems (next gen, havent played old gen)
To be improved:
1. goalkeeper react very bad on crossings sometimes. They are standing on the first post leaving their goal open instead of staying in the goal.
2. And one thing I'm missing every year: Yeah, we finally can play custom tournaments. Every human player selects his team, ok so far. But why can't the other human player play the opposite CPU-team? It is pretty boring playing a custom league with two human players and every one has to watch his friend play until he is next (if he doesn't want to play in the same team). It would be great to be able to select the opposite team.
3. Please allow for random ball, daytime and stadium selection where possible (Lounge mode especially). It's boring to play every game with the same ball and in the same generic stadium.
4. If you pass, the target player don't move towards the ball. The stand still allowing oppponent players to intercept very easily (talking of non offside-relevant situations).
5. Please add more freekick varieties.
6. Add referees please
7. The cutscenes should be replaced by on-field-animations (at least the goal-animations, fouls, cards given, substitutions etc. That would add much more realism.
8. On all standards (throwin, freekick, corner, etc.) it would be great if the view doesn't instantly switch and all players suddenly appear on their new position but letting them walk or run into the new position. That would make the game really fluid and more realistic, also allowing instant freekicks or instant throwins.
9. Goalkeepers should also become injuired or receive cards and causing fouls.
10. Goalkeepers should get a yellow card when playing for safety too long.
11. Players should get a yellow card when shooting the ball after the referee blew the whistle (offside, foul).
12. It would be great if you could react for yourself after the referee has blown a whistle like you can in Top Spin. For example, the referee blew the whistle because of a foul and you can decide yourself if your player should help up the fouled player, excusing himself or become excited instead.
13. Having more than one player in the loading screen (when playing in multiplayer)
14. Goalkeepers sometimes stay still waiting for teh ball to come, instead of moving towards it.
15. Practice mode would be nice.
16. The whole online lobby thing should be overhauled. The online-lobby makes no sense. You always get thrown back to the main menu after a match. And if I play a be-a-pro-match against my friends online the same happens, you have to start all over again and during this time you also obvioulsy can't chat with them any more. Please take a look how Halo 3 implements the lobby thing, Bungie really made it.
17. The arena should allow a dummy wall for freekick exercising, a wall made of plastic men like it is used in "real life" training sessions.
18. In online-Be-A-Pro Teamwork matches you can only hear your teammates during play, the opposite team members only during cutscenes and penalty shootout. This is nice at first, but when you play only against your friends it would be much better to hear all of them all the time. So this should be an optional and not a fixed setting which can be disabled but the session creator.
19. If you set the player names to show only across the players, during online play you only see the Gamertags above the heads and not the player names like in an offline match. They should not replace the names but be appended instead.
20. Goalkeepers always pick up the ball when it came from an opponent. When there is no opponent in the near he should not do this (it takes too much time und is not realistic), but instead receive it with his foot like a normal player.
21. The "Back"-Button should implement an instant replay version (like in the recent Fifa Street). Or even better: just remember the current scene and auto-replay it when the ball is out.
22. Offside should be blown when it's obvious. In Fifa08 it's not blown until the stiker reaches the ball.
23. The Auto-Jersey selection is not working well sometimes. In Lounge-Mode you're not able to choose the jersey you want. So sometimes you get two teams wearing nearly the same jersey (both red e.g.), which is unplayable, so you have to quit and restart again.
24. the colors on the radar are not intuitive. The colors often differ from the main color of the jerseys. Sometimes the opponent has the color you ought to have and your own color is not the color of your jersey. This must be improved or at least the possibility of a custom selection like we have for jerseys before the match should be implemented. I'm using the radar a lot - and it's sometimes really a pain when the colors don't fit the jerseys.
25. the camera angle in be-a-pro should be made adjustable (Zoom). Especially when you're running towards the goal the camera's zooming in and the overview gets completely lost. You're nearly forced to shoot, because passing to a teammate is a matter of luck.

Great list:
Manager Mode Improvements
-More stadiums (even if they are generic)
- When you upgrade your stadium, reflect that
with the stadium you play in so you
-I'd like to see the results of all the seasons going on, for example, if you are playing as Man U you can see the results of games in Italy's Serie A, or MLS, etc.
-Computer teams being aggressive during transfer season to make themselves better

Many features could be added that were inexplicably removed since FIFA 07 currentgen. Namely:
-Visual Sim in manager mode
-CPU actually changing their starting 11 in MM (so they don't buy Drogba & proceed to bench him, and so they're not fatigued constantly)
-Create a Team
-Referees (also, if the position of the refs affected what fouls get called, that would be sweet. might be too much to ask for though)
-Being able to change your starting 11 before -simming a match
-Practice mode
Also:
-Being able to see the type of injury
-I like this:when the ball goes out of bounds there is a cut to when the players are all ready. let the player run after the ball or have somebody throw him a new ball. challenge the defense to get back quickly to try to stop the break.
-Better commentary, more languages. An option to have the announcers talk in the home team's language would be awesome.
-On-field animations instead of cutscenes

Also, FIFA 07 would remember a good play and replay it next time play stopped, even if that didn't happen immediately. Please bring this back.

LOL, one more post. You used to be able to adjust the zoom and height of the camera. Why no more??
Come to think about it, pretty much everything should be adjustable, like in the PC version.

Set Pieces:
I would love to see more control when taking free-kicks and throw-ins. By control I mean put a button sign over the head of the players around the set-piece taker. For example if Ronaldo was taking a free-kick I could see that that rooney is in the area and there is a a green A over his head and all I needed to do to try to pass it to him is to mash that button or at least have that option and you could also manually adjust if it is a ball in the air or by ground and the speed of it is.
Also I would like to have a AI referee it adds to the game.
Moreover, I agree with the article that the quitting options in Online play are to limited. As it stands today I would want no option to quit the game other than going to the dashboard or shutting the system of completely ( like it is in PES07). This would cut back on players quitting the game because they are losing, because it makes them have to get back into the game completely.
I agree with the article that free roam arena needs to be more of a practice area. Where you could put up a wall for free-kicks and maybe have cones to dribble past. Also, it would be nice if there was a button that would show you on screen what tricks are available. Or simply what each button does for total beginners, instead having them go into the system settings all the time to find out what this and that does.
I also agree with the article that we need more control for goalkeepers. Especially when there is a free kick in the area, it would add a ton of fun quality to the game.
Even though I do like the overall gameplay, there is always room for improvements. The game still feels a little bit predictable. I would like to see the players recieve the ball in different ways automatically. Furthermore, It would be nice to see the passing play improved, sometimes when I want to pass to a certain player he passes to a totally different player, this could be avoided, with maybe a option to see where the pass is going before you pass it. For example, I am in midfield left side with Fabregas and want to pass the ball to my winger on the right Hleb, but Flamini is in the way, here it could be good to have a arrow showing you that if you pass it this way this man will recieve it or that player will glow up or a ring around him appears. This is just an idea that I have had for some time that I haven't really completely thought through.
I hope my comments and suggestions will be helpful.
Cheers,
Baldur

The two main things I want changed are free kicks/corner kicks and Manager mode:
Free Kicks/ Corner Kicks:
I am pretty disappointed with the free kicks/ corner kicks in this year's game. Both are an excellent opportunity to score, but they have been turned into a crapshoot this year. (For free kicks, assume that the position is such that you will not be attempting a shot).
The reason why these are wasted, is because of the stationary positioning of the players. In real life, there is a bunch of movement, to try to gain positioning. But in fifa, they just stand around, and hardly ever move to the ball, if it is played into space. Instead, the ball must be kicked directly at someone to have any chance of keeping the possession deep after a kick.
The ones that really annoy me are the ones about 35-40 yards out, on the side, where everyone is spread around near the box, but when you kick, one guy will move to the ball. This has got to be fixed.
In FIFA 05, they had a system that was unrealistic, but has the right idea. On corners, you would basically just pick who you would want to kick the ball to, and then the computer would kick it, and you would try to jostle your way into position. What I think 09 needs is to have quick plays, via the D-Pad. When you get to a corner or free kick, you are able to hit one of the 4 options. Then once you kick the ball, the computer will react according to what you chose.
For example, lets say you choose a near post run for your computer. So to get the ball to those guys, you must kick the ball with less power accordingly. So the computer would make the runs for you, but you would be responsible for the placement of the ball.
And I think you should be able to create your own, and then use them in the game, if you so please. I can imagine a play, where you have 3 or 4 guys run near post or towards the middle to draw the defense, but then kick it far, to the guy you told to make a run from the outside of the box, is there to meet the ball, if you have placed the ball well.
Also, for those who played 07 in current gen, you will know about the call the second player option for free kicks. This would enable you to have someone else around the ball for important free kicks, ones from which you could score from. and the second player could either lay the ball off, or shoot themselves, or the original guy could over run the ball, leaving it for the second guy to shoot. This would be fantastic, because it is realistic. Only problem in 07 was, that you could not control who the second player was, and it usually ended up being a defender. It would be much more realistic, for example, to have Henry and Ronaldinho standing over the ball, as opposed to Dinho and a defender, such as Milito.
Also, they gave you the option in game to choose who was going to take the kick. If you got to the set piece, and your default guy was not the best option, you could just press a button, and it would bring up a list of all the other people who could take it (Everyone cept for the goalie). Then, after you had taken the kick, it would automatically reset to whoever it was originally. This was much more realistic, as there are certain situations, where you might not want the same guy taking the kicks from a certain area.
May be a little too advanced for next years game, but maybe by 2010? I just think that its a big waste this year, unless you get lucky. (More than luck is involved in set pieces.)
Manager Mode
Other than online be-a-pro, Manager mode is the only other thing I play on FIFA. I never really mess around with challenges, maybe sometimes Lounge Mode, and never created tournaments. So I have plenty of suggestions for next year's manager mode.
-Scouting
I think that this whole system needs to be revamped. The idea that one of my scouts is going to go out, and find some 80-85 rated guy who is not already on some sort of team is ridiculous. Instead, the scout should go out, and search for players for you to sign in the couple following transfer windows.
The main options, aside from what they already include, would be what type of player you are looking for. Say you want a striker. An additional option should be, to say, whether you want a young guy, who would be a project to improve, a top of the line guy, or like an experienced player.
This could be an example scouting search:
Location:Europe
Position: GK
Trip Length: Full search
Player Type: Experienced
So now, my scout will go out, and based on the trip length, will return maybe 10 or so players, who he would suggest I could buy. I would not be able to sign any of them immediately, because they already play for a team. But I could then go and choose which of these I would like to add to a shortlist, and then come transfer season, see if I couldnt negotiate any of them over to my team.
And the Scouts level shouldnt determine how good of a player they scout, but how they rate a player. Maybe a 4 level scout will go see Luca Toni, and say that his finishing is a 95. But then a 10 level scout goes out, and looks again at Toni, and says, no, his finishing is an 85(I dont know what it really is) and be more accurate than the 4 level scout.
Also, I think you should be able to send more than one scout out at a time. If I have the money to send more than one out, then why not? But you would then have to upgrade the scout on an individual basis, and not the scouts as a whole.
Calendar-- I havent really paid attention in 08 next gen, but in 07 current gen, you could play several games a day. Obviously needs to be fixed if its still a problem.
Actual breaks in the season-- I just now looked at my German calendar for Bayern Munchen. In real life they have a 6 week break, starting around Christmas. In the game, it starts at the end of Feb. and goes to the end of March. Why? Well thats so they dont screw up the transfer window, because if you have no games, then you cant have any transfers. So fix the problem. Let us sim day by day when its transfer season, and then the breaks can be more realistic.
Transfers-- Need more from the computer, and when the computer gets a transfered player, use them! I moved to Arsenal in one of my manager modes, and Petr Cech (keeper) who was a 91, was a reserve. Instead, they had some other guy in, who was about 75. That wouldnt happen! So more transfers from the computer, and make them use them!
Overusing players-- But, on the other hand, if someone is in the computer's starting 11, they never are switched out. So they start the game with no energy (But somehow can keep up with my fresh legs throughout the entire game, that doesnt add up). So move them around! Switch the lineup more often!
Free agents-- This is laughable at best. First, free agents should be allowed to sign at any time, not just the transfer season. Because that is how it operates in real life. Secondly, allow the computer to sign free agents! I had DC United once (USA team) and was able to sign Michael Essien! It took a couple of times, but I was never worried, because the computer was never going to sign him! Need to change that!
More realistic results- Too many times I have seen teams that shouldn't, be relegated. Arsenal, Manchester, Barcelona, all have been relegated before. All these teams can take me to the distance when i play them, but fail so miserably against others?
ECC and EFA-- if the team has qualified from the year the game was made (For example, Manchester United, the first year), they should be in the tournament that they qualified in the year before. For Man Utd., they won the league in England in 2006/2007. But in the game, they are not in the ECC, where they should be. But amazingly, they are in the Charity Shield game at the beginning of the season against Chelsea. (Charity shield in England is the League winner, against the FA cup winner). So having them in the charity shield game, but not the ECC is contradictory. Just allow us to play in the ECC or EFA if thats what happened in real life!
-add assists to the top 20's.
First team/reserve team-- I really enjoy how fifa added all the players (or at least most) that are on reserve teams in real life. But i cant stand how they are included in my first team line up every time. I think there should be two teams (first team/ reserve team) and you should be able to move people freely between both. Dont get me wrong, I want nothing to do with the reserve team(dont make me play/sim their games), but i dont want to scroll through 35-40 names each time I want to do team selection. Instead, i think you should have two teams, and just be able to move the players back and forth as needed. that way, i can keep maybe 18-20 names on my first team, and not have to deal with the rest if I dont want to.
Manager objectives-- I took Nottingham Forest once(English team, League One for starters) and tried to take them into the premier league. the first year, I won the league and got promoted. The second year, this time in the Coca Cola Championship, i finished third, was promoted again(although, i noticed there was no playoff, like they actually do it in real life), but the board was upset with me. The next year, the first in the premiership, i was given no extra funds (which would have happened in real life) and finished around 10th, with the same players i had the year before, and was fired (my objective was to win the league). There needs to be a little more realism here. First year teams in the top league, shouldnt be required to win the league to keep their jobs. Also, once i was fired, the game was over? In 06, i was fired once, because i was low on money. But instead of the game ending, the rest of the season was simmed, and then i was able to sign with another club.
Choosing prestige-- I also think you should be able to choose your prestige at the beginning of your manager mode. Some people may want to be a 10 level manager, and immediately go for a Barca or Inter or Manchester United. But if you dont, you should be able to choose a lower rating, and start at lower clubs. And then, maybe you could move up to bigger clubs as your prestige goes up. Also, not ever job should be available at the end of every season. It wouldnt matter if Real Madrid just won the league and ECC, they would still accept me. And sure, maybe their coach just retired, but show me that. Before you sign for a club, there should be a preview of it. Show why they are switching managers (fired or quit or retired) how well they did last year, what the objectives are, and who is on the team. That way, you can know before you go in and sign with a club.
Stadium select-- If we can do it in kick off mode, why not in manager mode? I usually play for arsenal, so I wouldn't go about changing the venue for my home games. But why should I play Wigan in that Spanish (sorry, i don't know where its from, but its got the Spanish name) stadium. It would seem like a better idea to choose a stadium that more fits what they actually play in. So please let me do this. Or allow me in team management in the main menu, to set the default stadiums for all the teams, and for all the cups before I start my manager mode!
Cup final stadiums-- Have the cup finals in neutral stadiums! And if you cant fix that yourselves, let us choose!
injuries-- Injuries happen often in real life, so reflect that in the game! I rarely ever get injuries, and most are just a couple of days, so they dont miss a game! Add more injuries, and for longer periods. Also, dont restrict it to the game. Maybe, you get a message right as you go to team selection that someone has gotten an injury warming up, and so you wont be able to play them for that game! Also, when they come back from long layoffs, they shouldnt be immediately back in full fitness. Maybe, send them down to reserves for a few games, and then when they are back to full fitness, you bring them back up to play. But its unrealistic to take a guy who has been out for 3 months, and immediately throw him into a game, and expect him to go a full 90.
Whats going on else where?-- Why cant i know whats going on in other leagues? Or how the cup competitions are going (ECC or EFA) if im not in them? Maybe I want to check how the league in Italy is going, who the top scorers are, and who is in the Coppa Italia final? Too hard to ask for?
Players in national sides, but not club teams in the game-- Luca Modric from Croatia(plays for Dinamo Zagreb), and Wanger Love from Brazil (plays for CSKA moscow) come to mind. They play for their countries, but their club teams arent in the game. So in the manager mode, you cant add them to your teams, because they are not in the game. What should be done, is add all the players who are in the game, but have no club team, to the free agents at the beginning of the mananger mode. Then, anyone who wants to sign one of those players, can actually do so.
This post just got way out of hand. Sorry about that. Clearly, maybe a couple (if not any) will be included in next year, but these would make the game just so much better i would think.

Some really good ideas, but i disagree with the one in where you can see who which player your opponent is controlling, as that can be a great tactic used to intercept passes and such, so that element of the game IMO should be kept as it is now.

FIFA 09 – Joao Gallegos
joao_vl@hotmail.com
joao_gallegos@hotmail.com
FIFA 08 is a good game. But needs a lot to make it a great game. And even more to make it look like a real soccer game.
Commentaries.
- Got to change them For English use the guys from ESPN and for Spanish use the guys from UNIVISION.
- Need to add commentaries in Italian, Portuguese, and French.
- In a close game like in a 1 goal lead or a tied game make them do every attack interesting. Especially when time is running out.
- When scoring a goal make them SCREAM the goal.
Cut scenes.
- When the players and referees come out make them sing the national anthem.
- When a player misses a near shot on goal show the fans holding their heads or angry at the player.
- Show the subs in the bench with the coach and staff.
- When a player is off site and scores make it belief that it was a goal and then show a referee with the flag up.
- When a player is seriously injured make the little car come in and take him away.
- In a Tournament especially in a knockout stage show the losing team sad or crying like in real life. And in the Final the winning team happy and exited jumping around with flags in their backs and then show them getting the medals and the trophy. And the losing team crying in the floor.
- Show the Stadium before the game begins like in FIFA 99. That use to be nice.
- Show them celebrating when the win a League.
Teams.
- Instead of putting Second Division Leagues add South American Leagues like Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. Or at least the most historic teams of each country.
- Defiantly need more National Teams. Look at “Winning Eleven” they have tons of national teams.
- Add Historic teams like Previously FIFA World Cup Champions.
- Add All-Star Teams.
Game play.
- The Game play is good.
- The GK is bad as always. Needs to stop getting easy goals on it own post. And in the area go for the ball. Don’t make him look at it.
- Make it easier to take leave the GK behind. With a good Striker.
- What happen to the First touch, and of the Ball Control? That use to be nice.
- Make some players players unique like strikers insane at headers, or defenders who are extremely dirty at tackle. And players that are insane at dribble.
- Foul system needs to improve. More yellow cards.
- Keeper needs to get a card for holding up game.
- Intestinal dirty tackle. When you’re losing and want to kill the opponent’s player.
- Add referees in the field. 2 side referees and 1 in the middle.
- When a player is injured make him get out of the field and come back in few moments later like real life.
- Need to put the 1, 2 touch.
Tournaments.
- Need to add tournaments. Like Africa Cup, Copa America, Gold Cup. Euro Cup. FIFA World Cup. FIFA Club World cup.
Manager mode.
- Is good need to add some things.
- Don’t have to skip weeks to get a player .
- News paper after all games.
- Start with Crappy teams.
- End with manage a National Team. With the road to the world cup. And finally win it.
Be a Pro.
- Add Be a Superstar
- Same a Manager mode . Start in a crappy team and go your way up to a national team and a five star club.
Stadiums/Weather.
- Need to add more Stadiums.
- Need to show the fans in the Stadium.
- Fix it could rain and snow.
Uniforms.
- Change the uniforms every year in manager mode.
- Make it so you could change some parts of the uniforms not the whole thing. Like Brazil ex. Yellow shirt, blue shorts, and blue socks. Or yellow shirt, white shorts , and white socks.
- Uniforms according to weather
Add-ons.
- Creation center. ( could create teams )
- Practice mode.
- Add real referees.
Thanks for Reading.
Hopefully EA gets this list.

I would like to see the addition of an option to take a quick free kick when you get fouled. This can catch out opponents and is seen a lot in real life. This option is in PES 2008 and I really like it. Another thing I would like to see is a diving option - I like the 'risk versus reward' idea that was mentioned earlier. Also on freekicks it might be nice to 'invent' and save certain set peices on the training ground and then implement them during a match. The ability to send up a certain big defender for a late corner would be a great addition.

Gameplay
i thiink that the skill moves are cool in fifa 08 but i hate when the player is going at top speed and all of the sudden i have to lower my speed to do a trick and take on a player. i think that at least leg overs and lane changes should be able to be done on top speed. also more accurcy on passes. close passes are good but if you try to make a long pass the other team always intercept them.also faster gameplay and more game vision for players

- Pre season friendlies
- day by day option especically in the transfer window
- Substitution bench dosent change when you played a champions league game then a league game
- More Stadiums
- More specific comments by commentators
- Make the substitutions when coming on look more better

I recommend to create a superstar mode just like madden 08. you create ur own player and then u choose the position u would like to play and then u only play with the player u created... i think it would kool if it has it....

I like to start by saying, give the players commentry names as in winning eleven.I'm tired of creating players and when useing them in game mode all you are hearing is that "he as the ball" as if you didn't give the player a name.I understand that you wouldn't know the player they created, but please do something to that area.

I like to start by saying, when the match is about to begin, let us see the players in the dressing room getting ready.Another thing at half time, let us see the players in the dressing room getting instructions from the coach.Futhermore let us see the substitutes on the bench and when they are about to come onto pitch let us see them warming or takeing instructions from the coach.Last I also like say let us see the coach on the sideline giving instructions.

MANAGER MODE
- create uniforms
- in transfer season it should be day by day not week by week
IN GENERAL
-more teams in rest of the world (for example if a centroamerican team goes to the clubs world cup in japan they should be in the game for example saprissa of Costa Rica they finished third in 2005)

Everything mentioned is completely true espicially what is said about the yellow card problem in Fifa 08. A cool idea i have for Fifa 09 are commercials. Whenever you pause the game there should be commercials, real life commercials like McDonalds and Trojan. You should be able to show and not show the pause menu by like by pressing "Y" or triangle buttons. That would be a really cool feature.

-Creat a team mode should have the teams design on the jersey and should have sponsors on the teams jersey also. Also to be able to take actuall team logos and put them on the created teams.
-you should be able to choose real shoes like nikes, adidas, pumas for created or edited players in the game like in fifa world cup 2006.
-Be A Pro Mode Should be like manager mode, you should be able to creat a player and play 15-20 seasons with the player trying to make him the best, that includes tranfers to other teams keeping his career stats and being able to be called up to play for his national team.
-better head bands that accuatlly go around the whole head not just the front.
-CONCACAF champions cup tournament should be added. and it should be available to play in a season like the Champions cup in europe.
-You should be able to add a team to a league without replacing an existing team.
-More 3rd kits and should be able to creat a 3rd kit for created team.
-you should be able to go to the World Cup Of Clubs in manager mode or be a pro mode if be a pro mode is changed to be like manager mode.

Manager Mode:-Design Your Own Kit
-The Sponsers you sign with actually appear on the shirts
-A youth Training Facility So That Youth Players don't Suck
-When You take a job with a team that qualified for the UEFA champs league in the previous season they should be in it when you take over
-Like In FIFA 05 you should start with a lowish team i mean what new manager automatically gets a job at a great club?
-More staff members
-More leagues shold be added
-stats should impact a players performance
The hair in 08 on ps2! the hairstyle of any player with slightly long hair is diminished to a generic ugliness as soon as you zoom out. when you zoom back in, at a certain point the hairstyle comes back. you can barely tell messi and milito apart. how can EA take this step back from 07.
ARGENTINE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!
- youth academy for the 360 and ps3 versions
- the CPU controlled teams should update their starting 11 every match, based on fatigue, player acquisitions, and team success -- if a team is losing every match consistently, that team should make lineup changes to try and improve their performance, like they do in real life
- day by day transferring during transfer window so i can make/receive multiple offers during time between matches
- CPU controlled teams should offer to purchase players from your team more often
- CPU controlled teams should be more active during the transfer window, as well as signing more free agents
- if i have a player available for loan, i should not be receiving offers from teams that will never play him in matches. i should only be receiving offers from teams that will actually use him during their games
- world class players should never be in free agents for more than a few weeks. these players should be signing with clubs, as they should be receiving multiple offers from different clubs
all of this would make manager mode much more enjoyable
Manager Mode improvement:
-Pre-Season friendlies
-make it realist you can become a Manager on a National team too you could do both club and National you could manager through the World Cup Qualifier to the Finals
Be A Pro improvements:
-You can be on both the National Team&Club
-And sponsor would tthat be cool you sign with adidas and get there shoes for free and even creat your on shoes that cool right there
More Stuff improvements:
-We need more Stadiums like 75
-And More leagues and National Teams

Manager mode:
- teams should have an academy filled with young players that actually play games and not just sit in the youth academy and do nothing, once the manager thinks theyve got enough experience they can sign them on a short term deal and work from there
- there shouldnt be a squad number limit or if there needs to be raise it, this will include your academy or reserves
- you could also hav a reserve team for players that just need more experience or just arent getting any game time, this would be a great chance for your academy players (15 - 18 year olds) to step up

Manager Mode:
-bring back the manager mode from 2005 (i think it was, where you have to start with a lower tier team and build yourself up)
- Once you have built yourself up as a respectable and talented manager you should be able to manage National Teams.
I have already played EURO 2008 and I must say it´s a wondeful game.FIFA 08 was pretty good but has some flaws.
Eventhough, there is still a big bug in the game: GOALKEEPERS.very good in long distance shoots but awful in set pieces, crosses and 1vs1 situations(Y button)
Wishlist for next year:
* BIG STARS must be recognizable just with their way of running, shooting etc (like in NBA 2K8 that almost every player is unique). We can´t do the same In FIFA because there are a lot of players but the stars must be like their real counterparts
* Stadiums: in FIFA 08 there were 3 or 4 stadiums that were awesome. You felt like you were playing in there(Anfield, Calderon the best ones). You must improve the others( in NBA 2k8 they pay attention to everything to replicate stadiums...distance between court and the crowd, size of the arena....)
* of course the keepers...
Congratulations again for EURO 2008.It´s the first game which really recreate real soccer in 5 or 6 years.

Hi
Personally, the main game mode I used in fifa 08 was the superb manager mode. I played 5 whole seasons with Tottenham, and although it was great, there are still a few improvements needed.
MANAGER MODE
Pre season friendlies and transfers are vital, as you sometimes only have 1 or 2 opportunities to make transfers, and no time to try out new players
More transfers in other clubs – Only 1 premiership player moved club in my 5 seasons
Scouting made more realistic – I scouted an 18 year old with an 86 rating
FA cup and carling cup finals to be played at Wembley – not a home ground
GAME PLAY
Goalkeepers can’t move from side to side for penalties – they have to dive
You can take free kicks in any direction – including behind you
Attributes make more of a difference on the pitch
OTHER
I know it’s difficult – but a lot more stadiums are needed
If that’s not possible, allow the current stadiums to be manually allocated to different teams at the start of a tournament
Weather obviously, however Euro looks to have made that improvement
Player’s ratings to change throughout a tournament or a PES style form guide for each player
The more commentary the better – maybe even different commentators for different games
As many scenes as possible, like teams celebrating and receiving medals at end of tournament, actually singing the national anthem, and injured players being carried off on a stretcher.
THE MOST IMPORTANT
My favourite thing on fifa 07 ps2 was me and my friend would select two user teams (spurs and man u) and play a premiership season with me playing as United’s opponents and he played as Spurs opponents. On next gen, you can’t play as a non user team. I know some people could cheat to get achievements, but on current gen games, it will say – if you play as a non user team you will not receive any rewards. They should add that on to fifa 09
Overall, fifa 08 is the best football game ever, maybe even the best sport game (although brian lara comes close). Fifa 09 has the potential, with just a few changes, to be the best video game of all time.
Thanks
Manager mode improvements:
You should be able to upgrade your youth academy in the same way that you can upgrade your coaches, medical staff, negotiator, etc.
That way, the more money you invested in the youth academy, the better the players coming out of it would be.
that would rock my world
Being an avid Torquay united fan who last year were relagated to the blue square premier league and because fifa doesn't hav non-league football i was dissappionted i couldn't play as torquay but i still got fifa 08 and best football game yet but for fifa 09 i think the game should hav the Blue square premier league and the scotish divisions 1,2 and 3 please EA (legends) please!!!!! give me the blue square premier. :) league.

Be a pro needs its own 15 year season. We should be able to take a player and build him up and also be able to move clubs when ever we want to, i don't want to be stuck with one team. Story lines would also be a good inclusion. Cutscenes of your player either being a new signing or maybe breakin a record or receivin player of the month award.
In managr mode awards need to be included, world player of the year, european player of the year. We really don't have a reason to play manager mode. I've only played manager mode in fifa 08 for 3 seasons because it gets extremely boring very quickly. Please include better cup celebration, the ones that are there right now are terrible. show the players actually receiving the medals and holding the trophy up. the team photo is extremely lame. we should be able to score from an offside and then see the player celebrate only to be called back and have the goal disallowed thats a sweet feature.

Hi EA this the best for FIFA and for your company as well as the FIFA fans.
Enhanced transfers like in real thats good day by day transfers.
newspaper after the match or before the match.
Player interviews before or after the match.
More injuries im ean reality injury like stuff.
Separate teams like reserve team must be there in the game because it shows reality.
Also girls team should be there
Good graphics are must.
CPU more active in transfers then they were before.
Players must have reality faces and even more stadiums mainly in the barclays premier league and realsitic weather conditions.
Budget must be original as well as the managers should be reliastic.
More uniforms or kits.
Skip transfer days by day not by weeks.
Thanks EA Please read these it would be great.
Referees and linesman in game and not just when fouls are commited
real-life managers to be seen in the game.
better conservative tackling.
more time for transfers in manager mode
better fitness, in real life you don't have so much rotation.
better player ratings...
