The East, Midwest, Final Four, and Championship Game Results

March 25, 2008 7:48 am - Author: Kyle Cooper

As we prepare to simulate the left side of the bracket you can see that we still have plenty of big names like North Carolina, Kansas, and Tennessee left in the field. I think many people believe that North Carolina is the favorite to win it all right now because of just how dominant they've been the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. However, if the heels get past the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games they will no longer be playing their games in North Carolina. Instead, the Final Four games are to be played in San Antonio, Texas. If you missed our simulations for the West and South Regionals CLICK HERE. Let's take a look at how UNC and the remaining teams panned out in this March Madness 08 simulation.

East Regional Simulation - Sweet 16

The thought that UNC would walk to the finals was quickly thrown out the window in this simulation as the even hotter Washington State Cougars knocked out the Heels 93-82 to move on to the Elite 8. Washington State is an amazingly good defensive team, but if they give up even 82 points to UNC I just don't see how they can win. The Cougars have to keep this game in the 70's if they want to survive because they just don't have enough offense to keep up for 40 minutes in a fast-paced game. The Tennessee Volunteers will be the next team the Cougars face as their speed and athleticism proved to be too much for the Louisville Cardinals.

Midwest Regional Simulation - Sweet 16

The Kansas Jayhawks cruised to a 10-point win over the upstart Villanova Wildcats. The Jayhawks should be able to defend the Wildcats' guards on the outside, while dominating on the inside. In the second Sweet 16 game in the Midwest the Davidson Wildcats continue to scratch and claw their way past opponent as they knock off the Wisconsin Badgers. I love what Davidson has done so far, but I think if the Wildcats get by this game it will be an even bigger upset than their win over Georgetown. Wisconsin has more than one big body inside to go along with solid play on the outside. Expect this to be an entertaining game, but the Badgers will end up on top in my opinion.

Elite 8 Simulation - East and Midwest Regional Games

With wins in our Elite 8 simulations, the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kansas Jayhawks will both lace em' up as they prepare to take on one another in the Final Four. The Vols got by a tough Washington State club 86-79, while the Jayhawks finally did what no one else could do by beating Davidson 74-62. The matchup between Kansas and Tennessee should be an extremely exciting one to watch because these two teams get up and down the court quickly. I think the team that can avoid having the most turnovers will end up winning in the Final Four and moving on to the Championship Game.

Final Four Simulation

The semi-hometown crowd for the #2 seeded Texas Longhorns didn't prove to be enough as the UCLA Bruins came in to San Antonio and walked away from the first game with a 73-57 win. The experience and inside play of the Bruins will be two big factors for UCLA if they do actually make it to the National Championship Game. In the other Final Four Game, Tennessee must have committed about 50 turnovers as the Kansas Jayhawks embarrassed the Vols 93-63 to cement their place in the Final. The Championship Game between Kansas and UCLA should be a game between two fundamentally sound teams that will provide fans with 40 minutes of enjoyable basketball to watch.

Championship Game Simulation - #1 UCLA vs. #1 Kansas

The Kansas Jayhawks turn away the UCLA Bruins' title hopes yet again. Bruins' coach Ben Howland must be wondering how can he ever get this team over the hump now that they've made deep runs in the NCAA Tournament for each of the last three seasons, only to come away with nothing to show for it. Meanwhile, it's party time in Kansas as the Jayhawks find themselves atop the college basketball world once again.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!!
