SportsGamer Madden NFL 09 Power Rankings: Teams 32-28
Now that the draft is complete SportsGamer has decided to rank the NFL teams for Madden NFL 09. You may look at these rankings and be surprised that some teams are ranked high compared to how they will rank this coming NFL season. Remember, Madden rankings are completely different than NFL rankings. When you rank teams for Madden 09 you must take into account their offense and speed. Those seem to be the two biggest factors in determining how good an NFL team will be.
This will be a six part series. The first part will rank teams 32-28. Look for teams 27- 23 this coming Friday! Share your thoughts with us in our forums.
#32 | The Dolphins will be one of the worst rated teams in Madden. They don’t have many weapons on offense other than Ronnie Brown. Ted Ginn Jr. will have speed, but he’ll also have three lousy quarterbacks throwing to him. 1st round pick Philip Merling can be a good weapon in Madden as a rookie because he’ll probably have speed. And as we all know, speed kills, in Madden. The no. 1 pick overall, Jake Long, should come in and help the running game, but how important is this in Madden compared to other positions? |
#31 | One of the most overused teams in Madden the past few years will be one of the least used. Gone is arguably the best virtual football player ever in Michael Vick. Insert rookie quarterback Matt Ryan. Vick and Ryan are complete opposites when it comes to quarterbacking. Vick is a mobile quarterback and Ryan is a drop back passer. Who will Ryan throw to? Looks like Roddy White will be his main target since TE Alge Crumpler is gone. The positive for this team is they will have two very fast runningbacks in Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood.

#30 | The Jets are weak in a lot of areas. Their stable of quarterbacks is below average. In Madden you can make up for a bad QB if he’s mobile or has a strong arm. Chad Pennington lacks both of those, and that’s what makes passing the ball so hard with the Jets. They do have some solid runningbacks in Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Their rookie TE Dustin Keller could be a good weapon in Madden. He’s a very fast TE and could be used as a slot WR in certain packages. With Washington and Keller’s speed on offense, the Jets could run some nice plays. 1st round pick Vernon Gholston could be a Terrell Suggs type player and lineup at LB or DE. |
#29 | Frank Gore should be a monster in the game again. Unfortunately for the 9ers they have Alex Smith throwing passes to average wide receivers. One thing Alex Smith has in his favor is he is somewhat mobile compared to other quarterbacks. TE Vernon Davis should only be better in this years Madden and has the speed at the TE to create match up problems. Reigning defensive rookie of the year Patrick Willis will lead the defense but it might not be enough.
|
#28 | The Chiefs had a nice draft and the additions of Dorsey, Albert and Flowers will help, but I’m not sure how much it’ll help this year. On the offensive side of the ball the Chiefs have good players at key positions except at the quarterback position. Larry Johnson is one of the top runningbacks in Madden, and of course your have TE Tony Gonzalez. Dwayne Bowe had an excellent rookie year and should be rated even higher in this years game. The defense will probably be weak again unfortunately.
