Madden 09: Offensive Line Ratings

Madden 09: Offensive Line

Now the big picture should be coming together. You're either a Patriots fan and ecstatic that Madden has bestowed such favorable ratings across the board, a Dolphin fan wondering what else can go wrong, or you're somewhere in between. Don't worry Dolphins fans, Jake Long looks well on his way to becoming a stud in Madden.

Obviously the Vikings can block but many other teams boast some impressive lineups as well. Dallas, New York Giants, Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Philadelphia all have dominant lines this year, making their stud running backs even more dangerous.

We didn't include the all-time greats this time but if there are enough people that want to see it, we'll try to get this up as well.

Check back in over the next few weeks as SportsGamer will be breaking down ratings for every position culminating with the release of the full Madden playbooks. Also be sure to stop by our forums and share your opinions on the wide receiver ratings or leave us specific requests and we'll try to get the answers!

Posted by: jeremyishere on June 6, 2008, 1:01 pm

After one year playing it looks like Joe Thomas is the best lineman
Posted by: JaySpringz0413 on June 6, 2008, 1:25 pm
Actually steve hutchinson is the best lineman with a 98 overall
Posted by: Browns4Eva on June 6, 2008, 1:34 pm
I am a browns fan and i watch every game joe thomas is a men among boys on the field
Posted by: AHaze81188 on June 6, 2008, 1:42 pm
Yes I'm a browns fan to and not trying to be a homer but Joe Thomas Eric Steinbach combo might be one of the best weak side combo's in the league they are amazing next to each other.
Posted by: LIL_SKIP_24 on June 6, 2008, 1:43 pm
Hutch has the best overall but if you break down all the stats it looks like Thomas, is better

like come on look at that passblock, 97/97 compared too Hutch's 90/84

Posted by: EHSheadhunter09 on June 6, 2008, 2:44 pm
Look at the guys from last year compared to 2 years ago. D-Brick gets no respect versus Joe Thomas who is already being annointed as one of the best in the game. Also the Vikes have a proven left side of the line... San Diego is overrated as are the Giants... and the Patriots by a slight bit (they got burnt by NY's D-Linemen).
Posted by: fukau23 on June 6, 2008, 3:09 pm
The giants 0-line is not overrated they played a huge [art in their run to the superbowl, if it wasn't for them they wouldnt have made i there or have made the good blocking on the game winning td pass in the superbwol
Posted by: LIL_SKIP_24 on June 6, 2008, 3:12 pm
Wow denvers line is terrible, and there two best lineman in this game barely played last year.
Posted by: -904-Falconfish on June 6, 2008, 3:27 pm
BOO!! Jags line is better than Giants ALL DAY!!!
Posted by: BigBoi17 on June 6, 2008, 4:17 pm
U know wat? I can't really say anything the Giants...They're the SB champs, they worked very hard for it. They beat The best team in NFL history superstar wise. But im beginning to think they are a lil overrated with that stacked 0-line, especially Shaun O'Hare... He should be a lot lower than that. I never even heard of this dude before until last season, and he's 31 lol. Joe Thomas is a beast, I can't wait to start my Franchise with the Browns. They're everything I want in a fran. team. Big strengths, some weaknesses that I can work with(Defense) and they have a lot of young talent. Not to mention I always liked their Uniforms. This is going to be fun...
Posted by: texanfan90 on June 6, 2008, 5:01 pm
Erick winston should be rated at least a 86
dont youll know that the texans only gave up 23 sacks last year!!
Posted by: BigBadDice_22 on June 6, 2008, 5:54 pm
Well not very good for the Steelers but I expect Kumo to go up upon roster update.
Posted by: g4theman on June 6, 2008, 6:10 pm
How about the browns baby =]
Posted by: skw4712 on June 6, 2008, 7:02 pm
Honestly, if your strength is 87, you will be run over by D-Line or even linebacker (Ryan Clady)
Posted by: skw4712 on June 6, 2008, 7:08 pm
Cleveland Browns/Dallas Cowboys/
Jacksonville Jaguars/Minnesota/
New England Patriots/New York Giants/
Philadelphia Eagles/San Diego Chargers

Has best O-Line in general (All 5 OLs has more than 85 OVR rating)
Posted by: PMitch23 on June 6, 2008, 8:03 pm
Wow! so many overrated O-linemen! They probably did this for those Franchise fantasy drafters like me who can't ever get a decent o-line because all the best ones are drafted in the first few rounds.
Posted by: Charger on June 6, 2008, 9:53 pm
Chester Pitts and Eric Winston both got snubbed.

yeah texans only gave up 23 sacks last year.
Posted by: 54Bruschi54 on June 7, 2008, 5:58 am
Long is rated well, but Gosder Cherilus is the only other first rounder above 80. i know some of the others are at 79, but is there a like for Cherilus and Madden?
Posted by: kackle85 on June 8, 2008, 1:13 pm
Way too many 90's
Posted by: Willis_Death on June 8, 2008, 1:56 pm
Why is joe stalys rating so low
Posted by: Willis_Death on June 8, 2008, 2:25 pm
No love for staly
Posted by: BKSmokez4Dayz on June 8, 2008, 3:45 pm
So far looking at the ratings, D'Brick is the only person on the Jets roster that Downgraded. Is he the BLAME for our bad season? No one else on the jets seem to be affected by Last year's bad season but him. Basically everybody got an upgraded rating. Solid oline could be dominant. C'mon ea

Can you tell as what weapons they have plz.
Posted by: 9ersfan4life on June 8, 2008, 6:02 pm

Posted by: lockness85 on June 9, 2008, 9:24 am
Ok I am confused rookie of the year AP only went up 10pts P-will went up 11pts but Joe Thomas went up 14pts. Yes he is a good lineman but going up more than AP and P-Will I am not too sure about.
Posted by: texanfan90 on June 9, 2008, 12:27 pm
Alright 9ersfan4life i found out that youll's qbs all together got sacked 55 times and the texans line only gave up 23 sacks.... and your saying our line sucks!!
our line played wayyy better but madden sucks at rating our line.
Posted by: offensivetackle on June 9, 2008, 3:10 pm
Well I'm proud the chargers offensive line is good it'll help LT in the running game and Phillip rivers in the passing game and overall the offensive lines were pretty good and I appreciate the hard work to get these out to the people
Posted by: offensivetackle on June 9, 2008, 3:11 pm
Next I wanna see the defensive tackles and linebackers so I can see how Glenn Dorsey and sedrick ellis are rated and how ray lewis is rated
Posted by: SerbianWolf on June 9, 2008, 6:30 pm
For those SI people. Dr. Z grades linemen after watchin their film and said Joe Thomas was one of the best linemen overall last year, although as a browns fan i'm a lil stunned he is THAT good. To be honest, I'm the fantasy draft guy who loves building up an amazing o-line since it starts with the blocking and actually makes a difference in the latest Madden games. It's nice the hogs are gettin some love in the gaming world now.
Posted by: sg_Stoob0621 on June 12, 2008, 1:23 pm
Looks like Buffalo is screwed with Jason Peters..Might be amazing in the game but whats the point if he isnt showing up for pratice?
Posted by: Crocosaur on June 14, 2008, 12:17 pm
I'm sorry...but I've made it official now and if I DO decide to venture online, I'm using the Jags. When your favorite team's (Lions) best lineman is rated the same as your next-favorite's worst, then loyalties are thrown out the window. Especially when said other team has a QB and two RBs in the 90's.

I love my Lions, but I'm not THAT much of a masochist to use them online.
Posted by: DieHardBronco on June 14, 2008, 12:49 pm
Ryan Clady couldent be a fukin 80, and so if u get a season ending injury you go down 6 points, Ben Hamilton and Tom Nalen got SHAFTED
and if Ryan Clady is the second O-line picked in the Draft how come hes lower than Branden Albert who was a 15 pick, and Clady is worse than Chris Williams who was 14th pick??? Why is he so low if he was picked higher than the other 2
Posted by: DieHardBronco on June 14, 2008, 12:50 pm
Sry, Picked before the other 2
Posted by: DieHardBronco on June 14, 2008, 12:54 pm
Wow, madden is Homofuckinsexual
Posted by: yakthelope on June 16, 2008, 7:31 am
I'm pretty sure they are all overrated so offense would be a little easier; there won't be 20 sack games against the cowboys. That's for sure
Posted by: Heavenly007 on June 16, 2008, 8:47 am
Eugene Amano is underrated
Posted by: Daviddbusiness on June 17, 2008, 1:07 pm
LET'S GO DOLPHINS!!! This was our biggest problem last year (next to QB, reciever, and DB problems lol), but were making big moves for bigger and better things in the 08-09 season!!!
Posted by: Twinxx on June 18, 2008, 5:05 pm
Look at that Giants line baby....too bad brandon got screwed over
looks like the patriots are all reved up offensive wise...yippyy >_>
Posted by: champofchamps on June 19, 2008, 7:51 pm
Ok Packers should have a higher inside rating cuz Brett only had taken 15 sacks all season and in the NFC shampoinship game the Giants Line wasnt that big of a factor like it was against the patriots so come on plus Grant had 5.1 ypc just alittle love would be nice like spitz 90 wells 88 and coston 87 would be nice plus Clifton and gave up one sack all season thats unreal and tauscher had like 3 unreal
Posted by: kortneyd52 on June 22, 2008, 5:47 pm
BROWNS top 5 o-line in madden wow BO BROWNS!!!
Posted by: jamalewis31 on June 25, 2008, 11:57 am
Hells ya the browns kick o line some @ss i cant wait to run with jamal lewis behind them madden 09 is gonna rock
Posted by: sf49ers2180 on June 27, 2008, 10:36 am
Joe staley is awesome another year like 07 and he could have a pass blk rating like jeff saturday and be 92 ovrall, and chilo rachal should not have a higher run blocking rating he never allowed a qb sack while he started!
Posted by: Irish-Legend on June 27, 2008, 1:03 pm
I think it was in overall pretty well rated.
Posted by: jymsteeler on June 27, 2008, 1:55 pm
Well Big Ben is going to get killed, that o-line is sick, Ben got sacked 47 time, so i guess madden thinks the o-line hasnt got better, second year with a new coach. When madden get a chance to kill us, he murders us.
Posted by: jymsteeler on June 27, 2008, 1:57 pm
On a whole these rating are all messed up. i hope on the first update they fix it.
Posted by: king_merk on June 29, 2008, 9:08 pm
Dont let the overall stats full u, because balt. run game will still be good.

the vikings are overrated and of course no one will get to tom brady again in 09
Posted by: thefatlady on June 30, 2008, 1:05 pm
Did I really just read a couple of people comlain about Joe Staley being underrated? He gave up NINE sacks at RT. That is pathetic. And somehow he's rated a 90 in passblocking. Eric Winston only gave up 3.5 -- a top five number -- yet he's only 85 in passblocking. that makes perfect Madden sense. Those losers rate on draft status not performance and merit. Winston's overall ranking is a joke, 27th best right tackle. Has anyone at Madden ever watched a football game?
Posted by: xraidernationx on July 2, 2008, 12:15 pm
Wtf why do the pats have such a good line.....did they see how many times brady was rushed, hit, and sacked in the superbowl...although he had major time in the regular season
Posted by: xraidernationx on July 2, 2008, 12:17 pm
The raiders have a underrated line last season they were like on a 3 game streak without giving a sack
Posted by: sf49ers2180 on July 5, 2008, 9:12 pm
Thefatlady:shut up moron! joe staley may have allowed 9 sacks but considering how many times smith, and dilfer were sack all together thats impressive, staley was rated 77 ovr in 08 with a pass block of 86, so 90 isnt that much higer. go 49ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: dkite on July 29, 2008, 7:40 pm
How does the Eagles line get so good? Didn't the Giants tie an NFL record sacks in a game against that very line?
Posted by: e1337prodigy on July 30, 2008, 12:13 pm
The Browns Offensive line has to be the best. Look at them all 89+ and under 30years old. Hank Fraley? 20 years old and not a rookie?
Posted by: l_Knight_l on August 5, 2008, 12:09 pm
Whats with the broncos line? Clady 79? And Hamilton and Nalen are way better than that even though they didnt play much last year.
Posted by: thefatlady on August 18, 2008, 2:59 pm
Sf49ers2180, shutup pole-smoker. I'm sure all nine of those sacks were the QB's fault. The point, mongoloid, is that nine sacks allowed should not result in an increase in pass-pro, while Winston, who gave up a third the sacks, is five points lower. Idiotic.
