The dive, slam, blast, and iso running plays are all very similar in Madden 09. The key to each of these plays being successful is your team's ability to pick up any defensive penetration that may occur. In this example, we're going to be using the dive running play to show you what you should expect if you decide to bring it on the field this season. Check it out below!
In this first image, we've decided against using a lead blocker when running the dive. Using a lead blocker doesn't always mean that a run will work better, but often times it provides a safety net in the backfield to help prevent you from losing significant yardage.
The blocking assignments for our offensive line should be easy since our opponent has not used any shifts or manual movements near the line of scrimmage to try to confuse them. Still, we're leary about the possibility of being successful because the dive takes a little longer to develop than we would like.
Bengals' quarterback Carson Palmer turns and hands the ball off to running back Rudi Johnson as the blocks lock down beautifully up front.
You can see just how good the blocking is in the image above. However, we are still not quite back to the line of scrimmage as we look to make something happen.
We try to wiggle through an opening, but one of the defensive linemen slide off their blocks to make the hit on Rudi shortly after we cross the line of scrimmage.
When you're finished, simply save your settings. Whenever you play a game, regardless of what team you choose, you won't have to waste time setting your audibles anymore.
