 | The HB Direct Snap is a great play to use when attempting to surprise your opponent by running the ball out of a shotgun formation. Unfortunately, many people have already figured out how to abuse this play by forcing the center to snap the ball to another player on the field. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two HB Direct Snap plays in their playbook. The good news is that one of the two Direct Snap plays is easy to read. The bad news is it's still difficult to stop even when you know it's coming. In this breakdown, SportsGamer's first going to demonstrate what many online users are doing to abuse this play. Then, we'll be breaking down one option that you may want to consider using when facing it on defense. |
Play Breakdown
The first red flag should immediately go up in your head when the opponent that you're playing against uses the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' playbook. Then, the second red flag should arise as soon as your opponent comes out of the huddle in the Gun Doubles On formation. It's important to know that this play can also be found in the Gun Spread formation, but countering it on defense is near impossible. Fortunately, it's much easier to tell when the HB Direct Snap is coming from the Gun Doubles On formation. In the example above the Bucs have not called the HB Direct Snap. The reason we know that the HB Direct Snap has not been called is not only because the running back's icon is (B), but also because of the way that the two receivers on the left side of the field are lined up. The slot receiver (A) is on the line of scrimmage, while the outside receiver (X) is off of the line.
In this second image, you can see that the running back's icon is now (LB) and our receivers have flip-flopped on the line of scrimmage. If you see this alignment before the snap you have to assume that the HB Direct Snap is coming.
Our opponent changes the design on this play to make the snap go directly to the outside receiver (B) on the far right side of the field. Fortunately, EA just recently announced that users who attempt to run this cheap play will have their online accounts deleted. Hopefully this solution will prevent this play from being a problem much longer.
Once our opponent has selected which player he'd like the ball to go to he snaps it and the play is underway.
The ball goes directly to wide receiver Joey Galloway and he looks to move upfield quickly. This cheap tactic will work on the PS3 version as well, but you must send the receiver that you are snapping the ball to in motion and begin the play when he's behind the center.

And it still tells people how to do it. WTF? Error in judgement, IMO. Ya'll were banning people for putting this out there and now you do it? Come on...
You couldn't have had a way to post how to counter it without posting how to do it in the first place?
Lol, i've never used that playbook did'nt even know that play was in there, but even if i did, i don't look for exploits in the game, never would've noticed it.

Nice posting a counter
not nice telling ps3 users how to make it work, no excuses u could have posted a counter and thats it since most people on ps3 think it does not work on it
thanks for telling some ps3 owners how to get it to work, i'll be sure to thank u guys when i run into some bum online
Im glad SG posted this - it'll force EA to act quicker to release a patch
Appreciate SG sharing this. What one does with this information goin forward can only define ones integrity. Everyones on an even playing field now. PLay unranked games til the patch comes out. If it ever does. Remember these things when you fork over 60 bucks next year. Has there ever been a glitch free game?
Lmao
JUST AVOID PEOPLE WHO USE TAMPA BAY PLAYBOOK!!
if they try n say they dont use it, dont believe them, dont play morons who use tampa playbook.
this is probably the worst glitch to ever make it in madden. its unbelievable how they take out double pass and option, like they should, but then include this in the game....
anyways, this play will NOT BE ALLOWED in any decent tournament, and definately not in the madden challenge. so dont worry.
just dont go to play now, make sure u play people who dont use tampa playbook.
the madden challenge outlawed double pass and hb pass last year, they will do the same with this. dont worry.
The direct snap only works on the 360. which shows the ps3 game is better.
It doesnt show wat u have to do to do the glitch its just showing u pictures

Man,
Been coming to this site wondering if they would ever post some good hints and this is it? This play is much worse than WR Doublepass or the 3 man pass rush. It can't be stopped. Slowed down maybe. I beat two guys with it only because that is all they new and had no defense. 2 pt conversions are almost a gimme. I can't believe they posted this but good news, supposedly it's getting patched.
Ea also says they are resetting accounts found to use it a lot. I doubt that though. This play ruins the game though. I even used the Tampa PB so I could use this play to be the computer when people quit but ended up changing to NE's playbook as it was too tempting to use this play on 4rth and 1. That's the bad part with this glitch, in the hands of someone who can actually play legit you can't use man to try and stop it.

this glitch does work on the Ps3, i've never ran that play, not even in practice, but i know plenty of people who have tried it out on the Ps3.. anyway it doesn't matter because patch #2 fixes it.
