The Gun Wing Trio WK Curl TE Wheel has all the tools necessary to consistently beat any zone defense that your opponent throws at you. This play provides the user with the ability to attack several areas of the field at once. However, our main focus on this particular example will be the wheel route that the tight end is running. His route can potentially be open at two different times during a single play when setup correctly. In this tip, SportsGamer's going to demonstrate exactly how you can start taking advantage of your tight end further downfield by using the Curl TE Wheel play from the Cincinnati playbook.
Quick Setup
Step 1 - Hot route the (A) receiver to perform a curl (360 - Y + receiver's icon + down on d-pad / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + down on d-pad).
Step 2 - Hot route the (B) receiver to perform a streak (360 - Y + receiver's icon + up on d-pad / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + up on d-pad).
Step 3 - Motion the (B) receiver to the left (360 / PS3 - Move icon onto player, then press left on d-pad).
Step 4 - (optional) Hot route the (X) receiver to perform a drag (360 - Y + receiver's icon + flick down on right analog stick / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + flick down on right analog stick).
Play Breakdown
The Dallas Cowboys have come out in a Cover 3 zone defense. The right side of the field appears to be guarded well because there are four different defenders covering where most of our receiving options are. However, we know that as long as we have time in the pocket we'll be able to find an open target against zone with the Curl TE Wheel play.
The image above is a shot of what the play looks like on the field before we have made any changes. The main target that we want to utilize on this play is the tight end. Unfortunately, the tight end's route won't be quite as effective unless we make a few pre-snap adjustments.
We begin enhancing this play by hot routing the (A) receiver to perform a curl route. We like to call for this hot route because this gives us another option underneath just in case there's too much pressure in the pocket.
Next, we move the player icon over to the (B) receiver on the far right side of the field and we motion him to the left.
We also place the (B) receiver on a streak route to pull the defense with him downfield.
