The Gun Deuce Corner Strike is a play that has the ability to beat man and zone defenses consistently. The only playbook that this Deuce formation can be found in is Indianapolis. However, this formation is balanced on both sides of the field, and provides Madden gamers with plenty of protection in the pocket. What's great about this play is the fact that you can set it up to be run on either side of the field and it will still be successful. In this SportsGamer exclusive tip, we're going to demonstrate just how effective this play can be when setup correctly. Check out the breakdown in it's entirety below!
Quick Setup
Step 1 - Hot route the (X) backside receiver to perform an up and in (360 - Y + receiver's icon + right on d-pad / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + right on d-pad).
Step 2 - Smart route the (X) backside receiver's route to go to the first down marker (360 - Y + receiver's icon + press right analog stick in / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + press right analog stick in).
Step 3 - Hot route the (Y) backside tight end to perform a streak route (360 - Y + receiver's icon + upon d-pad / PS3 - Triangle + receiver's icon + up on d-pad).
Step 4 - (optional) Shift your line protection to the right (360 - LT + right on d-pad / PS3 - L2 + right on d-pad).
Play Breakdown
The defense comes out in a 3-4 cover 2 zone defense. Again, the Corner Strike play can beat man and zone defenses, but most top players will usually stick to playing zone.
The Corner Strike is a play that you can run to either side of the field without having to flip it before the snap. Typically, you'll want to run this play to the bigger side of the field to give your receivers a little more room when running towards the sidelines.
We're going to make our immediate reads on this particular play to the right side of the field this time. The first thing we do it hot route and smart route our (X) receiver's up and in route. If we wanted to make our immediate reads to the left we would've made this exact same change to the (B) receiver on the opposite side of the field.
Next, we hot route the tight end to perform a streak route to pull the safeties down the field and open up things better underneath.
The last step we like to take is shifting our line protection to the right. The first read is our tight end underneath, so shifting our line to the right allows us to roll to his side of the field for an easier throw.
