(Current Gen) I-Form Normal TE Quick Hit

November 6, 2006 10:24 am - Author: Kyle Cooper

The effectiveness of the TE Quick Hit can be seen once again in Madden 2007. The angle route that the tight end runs is so tough to guard because it easily beats man to man defenses. Furthermore, you can't play most zones against it either because you can make the throw at a few different points during the route. Take a look as MA breaks it down.

Playbooks

GB, NE, SD, Ten

Figure 1 - Check out the offensive assignments for the TE Quick Hit in the image above. The two routes that the outside receivers are running aren't exactly what we're looking for, so we'll make changes to both of these receivers in the next figure.

Figure 2 - The running back and the tight end are our first two reads immediately after the snap. You may have also noticed that we hot routed both outside receivers to perform streak routes to give us a threat downfield. Now we are ready for the play to begin.

Figure 3 - Both outside receivers begin getting bumped by the cornerbacks after the snap. Meanwhile our running back and our tight end head upfield looking for a pass.

Figure 4 - The running back is wide open as he moves into the flats. We are looking to hit the tight end on this play, so we just another second for him to come across the middle of the field.

Figure 5 - The tight end breaks over the middle of the field. You can make the throw to the tight end as soon as he makes his cut upfield. However, in this example we needed to wait another second because the defender gaurding the running back moved in front of our tight end just as we were about to throw it.

Figure 6 - We make the throw to the tight end by pressing up on the directional pad.

Figure 7 - The tight end makes the catch by snagging the ball out of the air.

Final Conlcusion

The TE Quick Hit will be much tougher to guard against if your outside receivers have a lot of speed. The reason having speed on the outsides will help improve your chances for a completion over the middle is because it forces your opponent to stay downfield to protect against the deep pass. Most players manually control either one of the safeties on every play. If you see your opponent cheat in when using one of those safeties, simply hit him with a deep lob to back him up the next time.
