Nabo's Hockey School: Lesson 3

October 21, 2008 3:05 pm - Author: Fred Villarruel

SportsGamer is featuring another article from the community. Nabo is back to help you out with your hockey game. This time he breaks down the offense for you.

One of the biggest things that most gamers tend to forget, especially with sports games, is that your play should depend on what your opponent is doing. For the best all around experience you want to figure out what the opponent is trying to do and then counter that. This forces your opponent to change things up and can open and give you that oh so joyous feeling of sheer ownage online.

Let’s say that your opponent is pretty conservative, meaning he covers the front of the net well, always has people in between you and the goalie, and doesn’t really chase after the puck into the corners. The best thing you can do on offense is just skate into the zone and do what is called “behind the net” offense. This just means that you have the puck down low, either in the corners or behind the net, and you want to get someone open so that you can get the puck to them on a one-timer. How you want to do this is wait for your opponent to come towards you, cycle the puck around until one of your players are open, pass the puck to them and immediately shoot. By doing a one-timer the goalie has the least possible time to react, along with all of the defenders.
