I-Form Twin TE - PA HB Curl

As run by DC Madden Challenge winner R.J. Warren

SportsGamer is going to look at the I-Form Twin TE PA HB Curl play in this next breakdown. The reason we want to take a closer look at it is because this is another play that Washington D.C. Madden Challenge winner R.J. Warren has perfected. The beauty of this play is that it comes to us from a formation that is primarily used for running the ball. However, the design of this play allows R.J. to easily attack all areas of the field through the air. Check it out!

Quick Setup

Step 1 - Hot route the running back to stay in and block to improve protection in the pocket. (XBOX - Y + receiver's icon + Black button / PS2 - Triangle + receiver's icon + R2)

Step 2 - Streak the #1 tight end (the tight end next to the left tackle) on your depth chart (XBOX - Y +receiver's icon + up / PS2 - Triangle + receiver's icon + up).

Figure 1 - In this picture you can see the offensive assignments for the I-Form twin TE PA HB Curl play before we have made any pre-snap adjustments. The lone receiver's route on the far right side of the field (Deion Branch) is fine. However, on the left side of the field we want to create a few more passing options by making a couple changes.

Figure 2 - The first change that we've made on the field can be seen on New England Patriots' running back Corey Dillon. We have hot routed Dillon to stay in and block, eliminating the playaction after the snap. The reason we want to get rid of the playaction is because it is not neccessary for this play to work. The final change that we have made in this image is hot routing tight end Daniel Graham to perform a streak route to pull the safeties deeper down the field with him. Now we are ready to begin the play.

Figure 3 - As quarterback Tom Brady takes the snap the Jacksonville Jaguar defenders begin bumping our receivers.

Figure 4 - We could make a quick throw to Branch on the right side of the field as soon as he gets inside position (as shown above). However, we're going to let this play unfold a bit more to show you the remaining options.

Figure 5 - In this image, you can see that fullback Patrick Pass is wide open as he continues into the flats on the left side of the field. Also, we are anticipating the intial break to the corner by tight end Ben Watson.

Figure 6 - Watson makes his break and has perfect inside position on the defender.

Figure 7 - We make the throw with Brady by pressing left on the directional pad to put the ball in a spot that only Watson can catch.

Figure 8 - Watson makes the catch for a gain of nearly 15 yards on the play.

Final Conclusion

Having the best offense doesn't always mean that you have to use tricks to be unstoppable. Instead, focus on perfecting the execution of the plays that you know to be prepared for any look that you might see from the defense. The PA HB Curl play is a great example of this. If you can perfect the reads on this simple, but extremely effective play, then you too can expect to score everytime. Head into practice mode right now to take a look at the PA HB Curl play.
