3-4 Stack Strong Snake 3

Bring the heat from multiple spots

The 3-4 Stack is a new defensive formation that was only added to the 360 version of Madden 2007. The setup that we're about to show for this play is as easy as it gets. SportsGamer has designed the pressure on this play to come from both the inside and the left outside linebacker. Take a look at just how easy it can be to get pressure from this defense.

 3 -4 Stack - Strong Snake 3

Quick Setup

Step 1 - Shift the defensive line to the right (LB + right).

Figure 1 - In this first image the San Diego Chargers have come out in the 3-4 Stack Strong Snake 3 play. This play is a 5 man pass rush with three deep zones over the top. The only true weakness on this play is the flats on the right side of the field.

Figure 2 - In this second picture we've used Quick setup step number 2 and the pressure is now set to come.

Figure 3 - This is a closer view of what the setup for the Strong Snake 3 play should be. Take a look at Figure 4 to watch the pressure unfold.

Figure 4 - Immediately after the snap defensive tackle Jamal Williams engages with Oakland Raiders' center Jake Grove. Also, Left defensive end Luis Castillo locks down on right guard Brad Badger. These two movements on the line create and opening just to the right of the center for our linebacker to exploit.

Figure 5 - Inside linebacker Randall Godfrey attacks the middle of the line, while left outside linebacker Shawne Merriman brings the pressure around the outside. The reason that Merriman is able to bring the pressure around the outside is because right tackle Brad Lekkerkerker is focused on the blitz coming from strong safety Terrence Kiel.

Figure 6 - Oakland Raiders' quarterback Aaron Brooks has no where to run as the pressure in the backfield is just too much.

Figure 7 - Brooks is hammered for a big loss on the play.

Figure 8 - In this image, we're manually controlling right defensive end Igor Olshansky to show you that you can still bring the same pressure up front without this having this defender on the line before the snap.

Figure 9 - Brooks is hit with the immediate pressure once again.

Figure 10 - Godfrey drives Brooks into the ground once more.

Final Conlcusion

The pressure from the Strong Snake 3 almost seems unfair because it is so easy to setup. However, like any blitz, it can be countered by keeping extra players back to block. We would recommend using this play in passing situations because this formation is susceptible to the run. Also, consider subbing in your fastest linebacker at the inside linebacker position to increase the pressure up the middle. This is one blitz you've got to check out!
