According to the Idaho Statesman, Jared Zabransky has been chosen to be on the cover of NCAA Football 08. Zabransky was the QB for the Boise State Broncos and led the team to the incredible win in the Fiesta Bowl over Oklahoma.
Former Boise State quarterback Jared Zabransky will grace the cover of EA Sports NCAA Football 2008, one of the most popular sports-themed video games in the country.
"It's extremely big for us as an athletic department. It crosses generations by touching kids and adults ... It's an incredible marketing opportunity,'' said Brad Larrondo, who is the Broncos' senior associate athletic director for promotions and marketing.
...BSU has already seen and approved the artwork for the Zabransky cover, Larrondo said. Zabransky, who will be in New York in late April for the NFL Draft, will begin promoting the product later this year.
"The Fiesta Bowl victory was a key to it all, and he was the quarterback behind the fairy-tale story,'' Larrondo said.
This is an intriguing move by EA Sports. Zabransky doesn't have the big recognizable name that they have usually gone with for NCAA Football covers. Instead this choice represents the brilliant season by Boise State and the astonishing Fiesta Bowl that no one who watched it will ever forget. I think most people will agree its a great decision to make this surprise pick instead of going with the most marketable player which had begun to have a stale and predictable feeling.
