Take Control of the Mound in UBO 2007

May 29, 2007 6:46 pm - Author: Kyle Cooper

Pitching is one of the hardest positions in Ultimate Baseball Online 2007 to become great at.  Fortunately, UBO's Camp allows you to perfect your pitches to have you working the corners of the plate in no time.  Just like in the Major Leagues, the key to successful pitching in UBO is being able to mix your speed.  The reason mixing your speed is the most important factor for success is because batters can make contact with virtually any pitch when appropriately timed.  What's neat about pitching is you can unlock new pitch types as you accumulate experience points throughout your career.  Continue reading below to learn exactly how to execute on the mound in UBO 2007.

Figure 1 - Once you've selected Pitching from the UBO Camp options you will be taken directly to the stadium.  By pressing the F1 key at any time during practice you can quickly bring up a help menu.  The first thing you'll select on the mound is the type of pitch that you want to make.  Then, once you've selected the type of pitch that you want throw you can move the cursor (catcher's mitt) to the exact spot behind the plate that you want to try to throw to.  Lastly, when making the pitch you have the option to throw as fast or as slow as you would like to.  We'll walk you through each one of these steps in more detail below.

Figure 2 - In this image, you can see the list of all the different types of pitches that can be made on the far left hand side.  On this particular pitch we've chosen to throw a knuckleball to the hitter.  Also, we've moved the catcher's mitt in the upper right hand corner of the strike zone to mix up our pitch location.

Figure 3 - Once we've selected the type of pitch and the location, then we can begin our delivery to the plate.  When deciding on the speed of your pitch the first thing you do is click and hold the left button on the mouse.  The longer you hold down the left button on the mouse, the more power that you will be throwing the pitch with.

Figure 4 - The idea on most pitches is to bring as much power to the plate as possible.  In order to bring the maximum amount of power to the plate you will want to let go of the left mouse button just before it reaches the top of the meter.  However, the real key to locating your pitches is to stop the meter at the appropriate place when it returns back to the bottom.

Figure 5 - To locate your pitches as accurately as possible you must re-click the left mouse button at any point when the meter is between the two lines near the bottom of the meter.  If the meter is stopped before or after this zone your pitches will lose a great deal of accuracy.

Figure 6 - The perfect delivery from our pitcher buckles the knees of the hitter as he takes a third strike looking.

Effectively locating and mixing the speeds of your pitches will always allow you to keep the hitter's on their toes.  Otherwise, if you continue to throw the same type of pitch your opponent's will begin to pick up on it and start sending shots all over the field.  Head into the UBO Camp right now to get started and learn how to take control when on the mound.
