ESPN ranks the top 40 free agents and Zito is 15th, behind other pitchers like Meche, Lilly, and Pettitte. They say he's got the stuff of a 3rd or 4th starter, but the reputation of a 1st or 2nd. After saying he's never had a major injury, and has pitched in 210+ IP each season in the league, they still rank him behind a guy like Ted Lilly and his career 4.60 ERA and .500 win percentage. I can see Meche being decent if he can find consistency, but Ted Lilly is 2 years older than Zito and we've probably already seen his best and it's certainly not Cy Young stuff. Even Lilly at 4 million isn't a better deal than Zito at 10.
