Stuart Scott: We now take you out to New York, where NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is about to start a press conference.
Roger Goodell: Thank you all for coming. As you heard earlier in the week, I have officially removed the New England Patriots' franchise and banned former coach Bill Belichick from the NFL. I have thought of a crazy idea that will follow up this historic event. Every player from all 31 NFL teams, all the players in the free agent pool, all the players declaring for the draft, and the roster of the defunct Patriots' team will be put into a big pool. From there, I will pick from random all 32 NFL franchises to shape up a draft order. There will be a total of 49 rounds to draft the new players to the selected teams franchises. The draft will be held May 1, 2007. I will now take a few questions regarding the draft and the removal of the Patriots and Bill Belichick.
Reporter #1: Why did you decide to level out the playing field like this?
Goodell: You answered that question yourself. I don't want teams like the Patriots and the Colts dominating every year. I like parity, and this is the best way to get parity in the league.
Reporter #2: Is there anyway that the Patriots and/or Bill Belichick can get back into the league?
Goodell: There is no way possible. Final question.
Reporter #3: Mr. Goodell, in your statement you said that there are 31 NFL franchises. However, before you started taking questions, you stated about having 32 NFL franchises like before. Is there an expansion team on the way?
Goodell: I'm glad you asked that. There in fact will be 32 franchises in the NFL, as I will fill the Patriots' hole. I can not give the details of the new franchise just yet, but I will tell you that the team will be located in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston still deserves a franchise, even after what Belicheat did to them. I would like to thank you all for coming, and I will have an announcement on the new Boston franchise later in the week.
