Re: Fred | Purdue Boilermakers
Offense Will Carry Team in 2008 ![]() Purdue QB Curtis Painter is a veteran of the Purdue spread offense West Lafayette, IN-When coach Joe Tiller stepped foot on the Purdue campus in 1997, he brought with him an offense the Big 10 had never seen. Now more than 11 years later, his offense has stayed the same. One factor that has remained the same is very solid quarterback play. Whether it was Billy Dicken, Drew Brees, Kyle Orton, and now Curtis Painter, the quarterbacks put up big numbers. They must know the offense in and out, and Senior QB Curtis Painter does. "Curtis has started games since he was a Freshman. He knows the system. We are expecting another big year out of him", said head coach Joe Tiller. With one year left to play, Painter ranks second on Purdue career completion percentage list at .599 (760-1,269), tied for second with 10 300-yard passing games, fourth with 1,269 passing attempts, fourth with 760 completions, fourth with 8,763 passing yards, fourth with 54 passing touchdowns, fourth with 9,101 yards of total offense, sixth with a 126.4 passing efficiency rating and sixth with 35 interceptions ... has two 400-yard passing games and one 500-yard passing game. "This is a very pass happy offense, and any quarterback would have fun playing in this offense", said the senior QB. "Overall our offense should be a lot better. Our backfield is very good", he added. If they aren't going to pass the ball, Purdue should be able to run the ball with two very highly rated half backs. Seniors HBs Korey Sheets and Jaycen Taylor are speedsters who can run and catch. One thing is for sure. Purdue has weapons on offense and this team will only go as far as the offense carries them. Should be an exciting year for this senior laden offense. __________________ ![]() |

Re: Fred | Purdue Boilermakers
Boilermakers Getting No Respect West Lafayette, IN-The NCAA season kicked off today, but the Boilermakers are on a bye for their first week. "We've just been practicing and getting ready for the game next week" said head coach Joe Tiller. Purdue isn't getting any respect in the pre-season polls. They are ranked as the 44th best team in the country and are picked to finish 7th in the Big 10. One Boilermaker though, thinks this is a good thing. "Who wants to come out as the favorite and have all the pressure on them?" said senoir WR Greg Orton. "We can just go out there and play without any pressure. Nobody is expecting us to do anything" he added. The offense isn't a concern for Purdue. They have always put good offenses on the field and this year will be no different with many starters returning. Their Achilles heel will be their defense. If these guys can come together and play any better than they did last year, Purdue can make some noise in the conference. The conference is stacked for sure. Purdue will have its work cut out for them. They have Penn State, and Michigan in West Lafayette, but travel to Columbus for a big game against the #3 Buckeyes. Purdue will take their first step to gaining respect next week against FCS Northwest. __________________ ![]() |

Week 2: FCS Northwest @ Purdue
Boilermakers Open Season with a Bang! West Lafayette, IN- Everyone knew coming in that Purdue should walk all over their first opponent of the year. Nobody could imagine it would have ended up in a 76-0 drubbing. The game started out somewhat slow. Purdue didn't score on its first possession even though they got into the redzone. QB Curtis Painter threw an INT in the endzone, but that was the last bad play we saw from Painter the rest of the day. Despite only throwing the ball 15 times painter had 4 TDs and almost 300 yards passing. Most of his yardage came on big passing plays. The story of the game though was senior RB Corey Sheets. Sheets not only ran the ball well, but was a big part of the passing game. He finished with 185 yards rushing on 23 carries, and 5 TDs. He also had 7 receptions for 187 yards and 2 TDs. "It was just one of those game when everything goes right", said the senior of his big day. "What a way to start the season!" he continued. Lost in all the excitement of the offense was the Purdue defense and special teams. The defense had 2 sucks and 3 Interceptions. They completely shut down the FCS Northwest offense. Purdue also had great field position the entire game. Desmond Tardy had 9 punt returns for 282 yards. He also had one kick return for a touchdown. Purdue is now 1-0 on the year and faces their first big test next week against #22 Oregon. Highlights: Big run by Korey Sheets. Re: Fred | Purdue Boilermakers
Boilermakers pluck Ducks in 48-3 blowout West Lafayette, IN- The Oregon Ducks came into West Lafayette as a ranked team, after the drubbing Purdue gave them they'll be lucky to leave reanked. Purdue dominated in a 48-3 blowout win over the ranked Ducks. Senior RB Korey Sheets once again set the tone of the game with a 67 yard run for a TD. He finished with 132 yards rushing, 2 TDs. He added another 6 rec for 90 yards and a TD. The score may look like it was a great offensive game by Purdue, which it was, but the defense did score 14 points of their own. They recovered a fumble for a TD. JR. FS Brandon King had an interception that he returned 102 yards for a TD as the first half closed. It was the longest return in school history. "I couldn't have asked for a better performance on either side of the ball" said head coach Joe Tiller. Overall it was a very good performance. QB Curtis Painter did have 2 INTs, but they weren't costly since the defense bailed him out. The defense caused the Ducks to commit 4 turnovers. Purdue is now 2-0 on the year and moves on to face Central Michigan. There were four recruits in the audience for this game. So I'm sure the win looks very nice. Re: Fred | Purdue Boilermakers
Boilermakers win tough one against Chippewas West Lafayette, IN- Purdue and Central Michigan are very familiar with each other. They met more than once last season and had an epic battle in the Motor City Bowl. This game was another good one. The 35-7 score doesn't tell the full story of the game. Central Michigan was within two scores with 3 mins left. Then the defense stepped up like they did all game. Senior QB Curtis Painter had his worst game as a Boilermaker by throwing for under 200 yards and 4 INTs. He can thank his teammates for bailing him out. "I was just off today. We all have them", he said Hopefully he doesn't have many more of them with Big Ten play coming up. Purdue can't afford to have that. The offense wasn't all that bad. RB Korey Sheets continued to play well his senior year. He had 91 yards rushing and 80 receiving. The story of the game was clearly the defense. Every time Central Michigan threatened to score, the defense delivered. The Chippewas did move the ball pretty well on the defense, but they couldn't score. After a record INT returned for a TD last week, that school record was broken this week with 103 yard return. They had 5 INTs total and 3 went for TDs. "They played their butts off. The game ball definitely goes to them" said defensive coordinator Brock Spack. Next week the Boilermakers travel to South Bend for a rivarly game with the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish. Expect a barn burner! Highlights: 103 yards INT returned for a TD EA SPORTS World - NCAA Football 09 Video __________________ ![]() |

Re: Fred | Purdue Boilermakers
Boilermakers slips by Fightin' Irish South Bend, IN- Despite Notre Dame being winless on the year (0-3) coming into this game, Purdue knew they were in for a tough game. After a dominating first half, the Boilermakers had to hang on for a 28-25 win. If there was ever a tale of two halves, this was it. Purdue was up 21-3 going into halftime, but Notre Dame never gave up. A combination of Purdue playing not to lose and Notre Dame playing with nothing to lose, was almost a recipe for disaster. "We were in a hostile environment. I knew it would be a tough game" said QB Curtis Painter. Painter bounced back from the wost game of his career and had 3 passing touchdowns. The main focus for the Purdue offense though continues to be the running game. RB Korey Sheets had 148 yards rushing and 79 receiving along with one touchdown. Not gaudy numbers but effective. The defense was dominating in the first half, but started playing it safe in the second half and giving up big drives. Notre Dame ended up closing within 3 points after a two point conversion, but Purdue was able to get two big first downs to run out the clock. Purdue moves on to face Penn State, who will be coming into West Lafayette. The last ranked team to come to Ross Aide, Oregon, left with a loss. Will this happen again?
