Opening Night in Champaign as the Fighting IL host Northeastern a veteran team looking to catch the IL looking towards the Maui Tournament.

Carlwell 4 2 1-1

Northeastern

Batallite: 4 1 10 1 0-3
Janning 19 3 1-4 9-16
Spates 10 3 4 1 1 2-7 4-14
Alverez 7 5 1 3-3
Adako 4 3 2 1 1 1-2

This game was scarer than the score indicates, they took the lead with less than 5 minutes to go. Holdren caught on fire scoring 8 straight points, and the Fighting IL will go to Hawaii with a 1-0 record. "We felt like we had control in the 1st half", said Coach Webber who headed into the Locker Room with a 12 point lead, and holding Northeastern to a 30% percentage. We shot the ball well in that first half, but the gameball has to go to Holdren as he came off the bench with 16 points, and 10 of the 16 came in the 2nd half. Calvin Brock also played big hitting a shot with 5 minutes left to give the IL the lead. The most we were down today was 1 point, but both clubs showed how resilent they are. Look for Northeastern to have a shot at making it out of the Coloniel this year. We have a big test coming 3 days from now against Hawaii, we have to take a long trip, but it will help us going down to March, as it is has a Tournament feel and is really crazy environment, and a long trip on a flight.

Illini star Calvin Brock excited after giving the IL the lead the score ended up being 65-55.

Dang, I just went to yahoo to see what the real score was in this game, and it was IL 63 Northeastern 55, that is nuts how close that score was to how my game played out.

Fitzgerald had 3 points on 1-2 shooting 1-1 from downtown
Nitolo had 8 points, 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers as well as 4-6 from the field

This was a really tough game for the Fighting IL, they were down at much as 12 early in the game. Hawaii scored the first 4 points, and at the 8 minute mark I was down 20-9, but the resilency of the Fighting IL showed, and Chester Frazier and Trent Meacham got hot from downtown(each went 3-5 from 3 point land), and brought us back to a 5 point lead at the half 41-36. " I think we got away from the inside game for a while said, Coach Webber. We chucked from downtown, but this is a really tough place to play. Two years ago Michigan St. came here and lost, it's a nice game to play to get ready for Maui which going to show how far we can go this year with teams such as Duke and Arziona St in it." The Fighting IL will play Arizona St, a team from a major conference the Pac 10. Hawaii might of actually outplayed us you can say, but we just fought back for the win. Hawaii falls to 1-1 and Illinois will come into the Maui Tourney with a 2-0 record.
