So that's two with Lombardi at #1. That's my thinking too. I'm really curious as to who EA has at that spot. Simulator, what was it that prompted you to put George Allen ahead of Joe Gibbs? As a Skins fan I'm curious.

My pics: (I really would have liked to have Parcells on the list. To me, he & Lombardi are like 1 & 1A. Oh well.)

1. Vince Lombardi
2. Hank Stram
3. Sid Gillman
4. Paul Brown
5. Bill Walsh
6. Joe Gibbs
7. Chuck Noll
8. Bud Grant
9. George Halas
10. Tom Landry
11. George Allen
12. Don Shula
13. Mike Shanahan
14. Marty Schottenheimer
15. Mike Holmgren
16. John Madden
17. Weeb Ewbank
18. Jimmy Johnson
19. Curly Lambeau
20. Dan Reeves
21. Bill Cowher
22. Dick Vermeil
23. Marv Levy
24. Ray Flaherty
25. Mike Ditka

Most (not all) of the coaches at the top of my list are those I admire for innovations within the game. As I go down the list, a secondary quality I look for and admire is the ability to take bad teams & make them good.

To me, that is why Lombardi has to be the ultimate example. He took a team that was 1-10-1 (I believe) and made them a pro football dynasty. Then he began again with the Redskins and improved their record before his death. Parcells would be the ultimate example of this. Every team he took over has gotten better. It's also the reason Schottenheimer ranks higher with me than many people would rank him.

Believe me its razor thin, when talking about the all time greats. Allen was great at taking losers and turning them into winners. He was a better motivator then Gibbs. He knew what made each individual tick. Plus Allen was more involved with the Offense more then Gibbs was on Defense.

He was a quirky guy but he took nothing and made them winners. I love that.

40 men together can't lose! He was definitely a character. Thanks for the explanation.
