Keeganbrick's Offense
Ok, this is the offense I ran the past 2 seasons. I think I will just dissect my Shotgun Tight as it was 85% of my offense with some other stuff out of Trips TE that others have prolly already explained.
PLAYBOOK: RUN N GUN SETUP: Put your best spec catch WR as your #1, your second best spec catch WR as your #2, your fastest WR as your #3, Either your TE or a good strafe catching WR as your #4. When running the Shotgun Tight plays you want to come out in the "Flanker Strong" package. AUDIBLES: LB - Shotgun 4 WR - PA QB CHOICE (turn off play action) this was my #1 audible that I would go to when I came out in Shotgun Tight. With my setup when you audible out to this you have your 2 best spec catch WRs on the outside, then your fastest WR as the one of the slots. Before snapping the ball I always start my left slot WR (#3 WR in depth chart) in motion to the right and the hike it as soon as he takes a step. This creates better separation against the person guarding him. Against zone you always want to first look to the outside WRs as they should be in one on one coverage. Every time I see this I just throw the no lead bullet pass and either mini-jetpack or spec catch with the WR. You need to have this tactic down for this play to become extremely effective. The slot WRs are both running crossing routes which burn man coverage and they slip underneath a lot of zones too. RB - I Form Twin TE - FB Dive Strong when you audible down to this from the Shotgun Tight this should put your #3 WR as the FB which is your burner. As soon as you receive the handoff juke to the right. Should be positive yardage like 95% of the time. Y - Shotgun 5 WR - WR Screen i dont usually run this play but once or twice a game to surprise my opponent. You want to run this when the defense comes out in zone. The screen can be deadly against zone. I usually put the far left WR on a streak in case the screen is covered so I have other outlets. X - Shotgun Trips TE - Trips Attack (Strong Roll 3 Killer) you can either run this the regular way as Bamma has told or I run this play strictly to beat the popular Strong Roll 3 Blitz. As mentioned at the top of the page I come out in the Flanker Strong package when using Shotgun Tight. For this particular audible, if I know someone is going to run Strong Roll 3, I use the WR Stong LT package. Put X on a Streak (should be your #1 depth chart WR). Put A on a streak. Block the RB. Motion Y across the field and snap it right before he gets set on the right side. First option should be A, you see the if MLB followed him, if not just throw a high bullet to him asap. Then you have X on a streak (should be one on one) for the spec catch, you have Y on the corner which is for rocketing, and B runs the out route which should be uncovered. A - Floating Audible One could be I Form Twin TE - HB Toss. You could mix this in when the defense crashes in to guard the FB dive you have been using. To run this play you user control the FB right before you snap the ball, take off with him to the side you are running the toss and then switch off of him once he is in position. This helps out the blocking a lot and can get some big gains by this simple use control. SHOTGUN TIGHT (use Flanker Strong Package) HB SWEEP Ok, I bummed this play off of Tiki 2 seaons ago when I saw him running it. I motion the far right WR (B) to the left and hike it at a certain spot. Im not sure exactly when Tiki is hiking the ball but to my knowledge it is best to hike it as the WR gets between the Center and the LG. CIRCLE the only changes I make to this play is to hot route Y to a normal streak route and hot route B to a drag. This is the play I use with the HB Sweep to mix things up. You motion B to the left exactly as you do with the HB Sweep and hike the ball at the same time. This drag route tears man coverage up as it gets a huge rub off because the DB gets caught up on the other WR's routes. You also have both slot WRs on streaks for the rocket and X runs a deep crossing route to the right that eats man coverage up and works against some zone too. X OPTION i run this play 2 different ways, the first being Tiki's way. In case you didnt read it Ill repost it here: I would make the following hot routes. Streak both of my inside receivers, 1 and 2. Then I would take control of my 4th WR (B), motion him to the left, after he took 2 steps, I would hike the ball. Here are my reads: WR 4 flat route - If the CB gets confused, throw him a quick pass with outside lead, he's good for a 7 or more yards if you read it well. WR 1 streak route - Here's where we try to get our Rocket going, if the flat route is covered, look here for the rocket, even if the defender is in good position, throw it anyway, you know there is no good position to defend the rocket 1 on 1. WR 2 streak route - If the defense is shading to your #1 WR, this is another solid option. RB Circle delay route - If you missed your first 3 options, dump it off to your RB over the middle, be aware of linemen or LB's playing spy though. Note: If you're getting heavy pressure, you might want to hot route your RB to block. If you have time and nobody is open, get out of the pocket and throw it away. (should've taken my own advice lol) My other way is you houte route B to an inside slant and hot route A to a streak. Before you hike the ball you motion Y to the right and hike it after he takes 1-2 steps, this creates the same kind of effect with the flat route where it burns man coverage. That is your first read, then you have A on a streak for a rocket, X on a corner route for a user grab and the inside slant you made for B burns man coverage and sneaks underneath a lot of zones too. PA QB CHOICE first you turn off the play action, you might want to flip the play twice to get the running back to block the A gap if you know how to do that. Hot routes are as followed: (icons are changed around on this play bc of the play action) Y on inside slant (block him if heavy pressure from that side) X on the wheel streak route (up on right analog I think) you then motion A to the right and wait til he sets. If in man coverage and the person doesnt cheat with the strong safety to cover the right side of the field this play can be 40+ yards to WR A. With the combination of the routes on the right side of the field, WR A's defensive back will get bumped enough for the speedy wide receiver to get wide open on this corner route. As soon as I see him break to the outside and get open I throw a bullet pass to the outside. From there it can be a race with the strong safety for the endzone. If that is covered you have A on the inside slant, X on the wheel route for spec catching and RB runs the post route which can be deadly as well to the left side of the field for the deep lob touchdown over the top or throw a bullet and spec it. ALL CROSS this play can be used in the redzone for a one handed spec animation as well but here is normal setup. Put X on a streak, put RB on an outside slant, Motion Y to the right wait until he fully sets, then hike the ball. The RB route is really good on this play as it burns the man coverage. Both the corner route and outroute get failry open to. If the defense cheats to that side you have B on a drag route to the opposite side of the field and X on a streak for the deep ball. in the redzone you want to make sure you have the WR running the corner route to the right (WR A i think) as one of your WR which can spec catch, so you want to get out of flanker strong package. Just throw a high bullet pass when he breaks on the corner route and he should get the animation. DOUBLE DRAGS hot routes are A on a streak, then you just motion B to the left and hike it as he gets to RT. The main thing I look for is the drag route underneath for your fast WR. If it is covered you have A on the streak for rocket, B on in route, and X on the deep post. HB OPTION (red zone special) hot routes are just putting X on a slant to the inside and then motion the RB to the right and let him set. I usually roll out to the right on this play The RB burns man coverage on this route, X also gets open across the middle a lot. Then you have both slot WR on streaks ( Y can be a deep lob if your QB has good arm) and B on a corner route thats gets open a decent amount too. for the red zone special it is very simple. Put X on a drag route, block RB (optional), then motion B out to the right and hike it right before he gets set. All you have to do is throw a high bullet to B once he breaks on his route and he should get one handed spec animation. CROSS WHEEL (red zone special) you can basically do whatever you want with the WRs on the right (leave them alone or mix it up), one example would be putting them on crossing slant routes, like B on inside, A on outside. The main money routes are the two left WRs. What you want to do is motion X to the left and hike the ball right before he sets. If they are in man Y is on the deadly out route which will kill man coverage. For X you want to wait until he makes his final break in his route and then just throw a high bullet pass and let the computer do the rest. If you are timing it right he should get the one handed spec animation. FL DRAG UNDER this play burns man coverage for me but works against some zones as well. Here is my main setup. Hot route X to an inside slant, A on a Drag route, block the RB. You motion X to the right and hike it right before he gets to the LT. X and A usually both come open and X can get some good seperation sometimes. You also have the post route to B and the corner route to Y which can be rocketed. TIGHT SEAMS hot routes are Y on drag, X on wheel streak, then motion B to left and wait for him to set. Reads are Y on drag, A on streak, X on wheel, B on circle route which turns into a corner route because of the motion. WR CORNER hot routes are X on drag, B on drag, A on streak. Then motion Y to the right and wait until he sets. First you want to look for the underneath drag routes, then A on the streak. Y is the speedy WR so he can get by his man on this corner route which we have turned into a deep post route with the motion. If you have an accurate QB with a good arm you can actually throw a deep lob here for huge yardage. Otherwise you can just throw a bullet lead to the outside if he has decent seperation. WR HOOKS couple short yardage routes here with a few rocketed streaks. Hot routes are X on streak, B on streak, Y on drag, A on slant towards middle, leave RB in his flat route. You them motion A to the left and wait until he sets. Reads are RB in flats, A on slant to outside now since we motioned him to left, Y on drag, X and B on streaks. Thats mostly all of my plays from Shotgun Tight, X Option is a killer ran either way if you can user catch well. The PA QB Choice audible is really important too, people really loved to zone it out over the last 2 seasons and if you can user catch streaks this play is golden. The audible down to FB dive is really quick and should be used a decent amount on short yardage plays if the defense doesnt have good audibles. Dont sleep on the drag routes with your fast Y WR, even the Circle play works really well for a drag to the left side with your B WR. Flat routes are rarely guarded if your opponent loves to send the heat. Here is one more play out of Trips TE that has some nasty underneath routes. HB SWING hot route X to a streak, Y on drag, B on drag, then either leave the tight end on the corner route or put him on an inside slant. B gets open really quick on the drag, make that your first read, then look for the RB in the flat, next follow Y on the drag across the middle, he should eventually get open after he crosses the opposite hash mark. Then X on streak and what ever you did with the TE. __________________ tOSU
