"Every Game Counts" Discussion Thread

DYNASTY SUMMARY:

As the commissioner, I will start off by creating the dynasty and choosing my team. I'll then set up invites to everyone who will be joining the league, and I will assign the teams at that time. This will ensure everybody gets the team that they have rights to. The important thing at this point is that everyone has already signed in online and created an EA account (this is a quick process that registers your PSN ID with EA, no worries about having to sign up for a new username or anything), otherwise I won't be able to find you to send an invite.

Once all invites are set up, I'll name the dynasty (please help make suggestions on the name). I'll then set the settings we agreed upon, difficulty level, quarter-length, and QB quiz. If we change our minds about these settings later, as the commissioner, I can change these at any time during the season. At this point, I'll upload a roster file that everyone will be prompted to download when they log into the dynasty for the first time. This is one of the reasons we will be waiting a week or two to get started, to give those roster guys some time to get their rosters up to snuff. I don't like playing with just numbers, and thankfully EA added this ability to force everyone to use the same roster file. No word yet on if I'll be able to change the roster file after the season has started and be able to propagate those changes to all the members.

At this point, invites are sent, and the dynasty is live, and put into a pre-season state.

Once at the dynasty headquarters screen, you will see a tabbed control center where you can see a lot of info about the other members of the league. Icons will provide quick-look access to see who is online at that particular moment, and who has and hasn't uploaded their game and recruiting information for the current week. Other options on this main page will show you things such as last login date for a particular member, who is the commissioner of the league, if someone has accepted their invitation yet, and if they are ready to advance to the next week or not.

If you check out a user's tab and open their main screen, you can view their record, last game score, recruiting time left for that week, and see a custom message that the user can enter. Probably most importantly, you will also be able to view how many times a user has restarted their game for that current week. This would usually indicate they were losing and quit the game to try it over, something I hope we won't have a problem with. During the off season, this screen will show options for what can be done at that point.

Once in the pre-season, everyone will complete their to-do tasks, such as recruiting and rosters. Each player will ready themselves to advance to the regular season. As the commissioner, I can force an advance to the regular season if someone slacks on their stuff, and the computer will simulate any remaining tasks that are not complete. Once in the regular season, each player has the option to set themselves ready to advance, update their message, work their recruiting, and set their offline password. The offline password is used so that if two people want to play their online dynasty game on the same console and TV, then they can play the game offline, enter their password to prove who they are, then upload the results to the server for everyone else to see after they've played their game.

If your next game in the online dynasty is against the CPU, you'll have the option to play your game for that current week. If it's against another player, you'll have an option to send them an invite if they are online. This board will be used for users to schedule times to play each other when those games occur. If a member of the dynasty ever goes on vacation or needs to take a leave for a brief amount of time, the commissioner will be able to put their account on autopilot, at which point the computer will take over any and all duties, including games and recruiting. Also, should the commissioner ever need to do so, he can wipe out the results of a game that has been played, allowing it to be played again with a clean slate. This will be helpful to resolve any disputes.

As the season progresses, the commissioner will have the ability to do quite a few things to keep the season moving. Before each season begins, the commish is the only one who can change schedules, and just as in the offline dynasty, only non-conference games can be changed. If you want your non-conference schedule changed, you must inform the commissioner before advancing to the regular season. This is also a good chance to match any user-to-user teams who might not meet during the conference schedule. At any point during the dynasty, the commissioner can add or delete members. So if someone isn't doing their part or keeping up with the league, we can vote to get rid of them and free up space for someone else who may want to join at any point during the season or off-season. The commissioner can also change the settings of the league at any point, although all settings will not take effect until the upcoming week so that all players are on a level playing field. You wouldn't want half the league to have played their games on All-American, then change the difficulty to Heisman for the rest to play in that week. If a player wants to change teams during a season or during the dynasty, the commissioner can do this. If the commissioner decides to "retire", the dynasty will end, and it can be revived by another member by using the dynasty file on their console. The person who revives it will become commissioner, and new invites will need to be sent to all the members in order to continue where you left off.

For regular members, you will have a set amount of time to complete your game and recruiting for that week. The commissioner can advance the week automatically if people are slacking and not playing their games and finishing their recruiting, causing any unfinished tasks to be handled by the CPU. When you complete a game, your results are saved and uploaded automatically. You do not need to do anything. Each time you log into the dynasty within the game, your local dynasty file will be checked against the latest version on the server, and you will automatically be updated with the newest one if one exists. So basically, everything is automatic, with no saving or loading to be done by the user. Once all users have completed their games and recruiting for the week, the commissioner will advance the week, and the cycle starts again.

As for everything else in the dynasty, it will act just like the offline dynasty, with stat tracking, standings, Top 25 polls, storylines, etc. Users will be able to retire from the dynasty if they so choose.

Re: "Every Game Counts" Discussion Thread

Credit to this system goes to Diabolicole @ Operationsports and I will be using this system for my dynasty.

Currently there are no job offers for online dynasty, but I believe there is a work around to this possibly take the saved data from the online dynasty and load to an offline and possibly get job offers.

Let me know what you guys think that are still interested in this dynasty.
Quote:
Team Change Point System
Unfortunately it appears that in online dynasty you cannot get job offers. This posed the problem of either starting at a good school or creating a system of changing schools that was fair. We have come up with a point system based on a variety of factors such as season record, player game record, and bowl games. Here is the run down of how to get points, or lose them and the "prices" of moving up in school caliber. These rules will hopefully substitute well for having the computer give us offers. We tried to come up with a system that will force us to move up slowly while still rewarding those with good years. We're going to try and make sure everyone has 13 games every season and 4 user games. At the end of the seasons I'll be posting up the point totals for everyone so everybody doesn't have to do it themselves. All you would need to do is look at the team you want to you go and see what their caliber, record, and ranking is, then see if you have enough points to move there.

* Points for regular season record will be
* (Wins x 2) - (Losses x 2) Eg. a record of (10-3) = 14 points
* 5 points for winning your conference
* 5 points for going to a BCS bowl game
* 3 points for winning a bowl game (BCS or not)
* 1 point for beating a top 25 team
* 2 points for beating a user
* -2 points for losing to a user

Here are the "prices" of moving to a new school. You "spend" the points you have accumulated and keep what is leftover. Based on star caliber, losses, and ranking.

* 3 *** = 20 points
* 4 **** = 40 points
* 5 ***** = 80 points
* 6 ****** = 120 points

* Penalties for moving to schools with good records - We did this to make it harder to get to these schools as they would likely not be looking for a new coach if they have been having success.
* Loss > 3 = No penalty
* Loss = 3 = 10 points
* Loss = 2 = 20 points
* Loss = 1 = 40 points
* Loss = 0 = 80 points
* Nat'l Champs = 120 Points

* Penalty for going to a school in the Top 25
* Top 10 school = 10 points
* Top 11-25 School = 5 points

Here's a couple of example of how much a school would "cost"

* 5 Star - (8-4) Season - #22 = 85 Points
* 4 Star - (11-1) Season - # 8 = 90 Points
* 6 Star - (9-3) Season - # 13 = 135 points
* 4 Star - (7-5) Season - NR = 40 points
* 6 Star - (13-0) NC Season - # 1 = 320 points

These numbers should give a pretty good idea of what we're trying to do. You can see that the teams with poor records that year (8-4) or (7-5) are much more affordable in their given caliber range. You can catch a 5 star school that is down that year and go to it for less cost than going to the 4 star school that is doing well. Also you should see how we are trying to discourage going to a powerhouse school before having to put some time in first. The national championship team should be nearly unachievable, I mean come on what team is going to win the Nat'l Championship and fire its coach?

We are also tossing around an idea for getting a bonus for staying at a team for consecutive years. At this point the bonus would be 1/2 of your wins on the second year at the school and all of your wins the 3rd year an on as added points. For example the second year if you have 10 wins, you get 5 points, the third year if you have 10 wins you get 10 points. This should help those people who stick it out get to better schools.
Here is an example of how many points a few people might get in a season.

Player 1 Player 2 Player 3 Player 4
(10-3) (9-4) (6-7) (11-2)
(3-1)vs User (2-2)vs User (2-2)vs User (4-0)vs User
Win bowl Win bowl Win bowl Win BCS bowl
Beat 1 Top 25 Beat 2 Top 25
22 Points 13 Points 1 Point 41 Points

You can see the emphasis on having a winning schedule and winning vs human players. Doing well or poor in these two areas can greatly increase or decrease your point totals respectively. The little things like going to a BCS game and winning vs Top 25 teams add up too and together can affect the points quite a bit. This should be reletively realistic as coaches who perform better will be more likely to move up in school caliber.

Sorry we are keeping the league to a select few and I did not plan to go more than 5 users, so we can finish a few seasons. If you remain active though I might open up a spot for our second season or replace owners that are not active during our initial season.
