Re: Maryland Terrapins- Fear the Turtle
Quarterback Controversy in Maryland
The Maryland Terrapins enter the season with a major Quarterback controversy. All three quarterbacks are capable yet not one stands out among the others. The candidates: Chris Turner, Jordan Steffy, and Josh Portis. Chris Turner- Junior: Emerged late last year as the starting quarterback after Jordan Steffy struggled and was later injured. The team played better football with him leading the way. He is a strong-armed pocket passer. ![]() Jordan Steffy- Senior: He is a very smart quarterback. He knows the offense inside out and won the starting job in 07 over Turner before struggling and then getting injured. He's a very accurate passer and can run a little. ![]() Josh Porits- Junior: He's the darkhorse here. A junior transfer out of the University of Florida, he was one of the top quarterbacks in the country when he committed there. He was run out of town by Chris Leak and Tim Tebow and transferred to UMD. He was in the running for the starting job last year before getting kicked off the team for cheating on an exam. He's a scrambling quarterback with a good arm and makes plays happen. ![]() Early depth chart: 1a- Chris Turner- 80 ovr 1b- Josh Porits- 80 ovr 3- Jordan Steffy- 81ovr Portis and Turner will battle it out in the spring to see who will be the starter. It depends who will fit better in James Franklins new offense and who can make the offense click better. Should be fun! __________________ ![]() thanks leftwich.....GO O'S!! Backfield Report
After losing the top two leading rushers from last year, Lance Ball and Keon Lattimore, Maryland returns a very inexperienced yet talented backfield. The backfield will be led by a 2man attack with Da'Rel Scott and Morgan Green. Da'Rel Scott- Sophomore: He's a very quick, small back who hits the holes and is gone. At 5'11" 192 he's a smaller back, so hopefully he'll be able to hold up over his first full season of starting as a college tailback. ![]() Morgan Green- Sophomore: He's also a small back, but more a bruiser than Scott. He's 5'11" 207lbs, so he'll bring a little bit tougher running style to the Maryland offense. He will be used for short yardage situations, change of pace back, and also as a 3rd down back. ![]() Cory Jackson- Junior: Leading the way foir these backs is fullback Cory Jackson. The junior loves to hit and will throw his body at will. He'll get a few carries but doesn't complain, he loves to hit people. ![]() __________________ ![]() thanks leftwich.....GO O'S!! |

Re: Maryland Terrapins- Fear the Turtle
It seems like Steffy has been around forever, it will be tough to decide who the starter is since they all are rated so close.

Re: Maryland Terrapins- Fear the Turtle
Receiving Core Preview
The WRs will be the strength of the Maryland Terrapins offense this season. They go 7 or 8 deep with talent, which will lead to some redshirting, and have receivers of all sorts. Guy with speed, great hands, height, and smart football IQ. The TEs aren't great, but are very solid. Darrius Heyward-Bey: The 6'2" 206lb junior WR from Silver Spring, Maryland is one of the best receivers in the nation. He has world class speed, great hands, and an amazing ability to get open. He will be the focus point of the offense as we will try to get him the ball anywhere on the field. He makes plays. - Here he shows his world class speed as he toasts the Miami secondary for a 95 yard touchdown reception
Danny Oquendo and Isaiah Williams- Heyward-Bey isn't the only receivers on this team will huge playmaking abilities. The two receivers will draw a lot of one on ones this year since DHB will require a lot of attention and they will make opponents pay. While they lack the world class speed that DHB possesses, they make up for it with great hands and great football IQ. They are seniors and knowing this is their last shot at winning the national title, they will do anything to win. Anything. ![]() ![]() Dan Gronkowski- The 6'6" 255lb bruiser from New York enters his senior season as the starting tight end. He is a huge target and has fairly good hands. He can block very well and will give the Terps a steady target over the middle. ![]() __________________ ![]() thanks leftwich.....GO O'S!! |

Re: Maryland Terrapins- Fear the Turtle
OL/DL Preview
OL: The Terps OL comes into this season with a lot of experience, as it boasts 57 starts. The biggest loss is RG Andrew Crummy who was 2nd team All-ACC. The O-Line is led by C Edwin Williams and LT Scott Burley. ![]() Scott Burley DL: Defensive Live is the weakest overall position for the Terps. We lost our best DL from last year in Dre Moore. Filling in Moore's role this year will be DT Jeremy Navarre. Navarre was forced into more of a pass rushing DE role last year with Moore in the mix, so he'll move to his more comfortable position for his Senior season. Trey Covington should have a good year as he will be playing the LEO spot, hybrid end/linebacker position. ![]() Navarre ![]() Trey Covington __________________ ![]() thanks leftwich.....GO O'S!! |

Re: Maryland Terrapins- Fear the Turtle
Linebacker Preview
There is a lot of talent in this years LB crew for UMD, even after losing Erin Henderson to the NFL. Dave Philistin leads this group. The Senior from New Hampshire broke out in 2007 with 124 tackles and showed all kinds of physical abilities that will make any coach happy. He will be the anchor of what should be a pretty darn good defense. ![]() Adrian Moten: Moten was a Freshman All-American last year and is really looking to break out into the national spotlight this year. He can play any LB position on the field and can also rush the quarterback better than anyone on the team. He will be the Terps go-to guy when we need a big play this year. ![]() The LBs aren't just two deep though. Moise Fouku, Rick Costa, Chase Bullock, and Alex Wujciak will all be on the field this year as well making huge plays for the Terps. __________________ ![]() thanks leftwich.....GO O'S!! |
