Last week, ESPN's Boston Sports Guy wondered if it were possible for a fantasy football team to go undefeated. Of course, the question came up because a) his beloved Patriots are undefeated, b) his own fantasy team is undefeated, and c) he had nothing else to think about while watching a tape of the classic 1986 Game 5 of the Atlantic Conference quarterfinals between Boston and the Atlanta Hawks.

After a lengthy self-debate in which Karate Kid, the Ewing Theory, and the genius of Theo Epstein were referenced on multiple occasions, BSG decided that it would be more difficult for his fantasy team to run the table than for the Patriots to do the same.

Evidently the Colts have a loss we're unaware of--possibly the week nine matchup that has already been conceded to Tom Brady. Somebody should let Tony Dungy know.

While obviously part of the reason was that the Patriots are flawless from the high cheekbones of their quarterback to the fashion sense of their coach, BSG had a list of reasons why an undefeated fantasy team was implausible. He even asked around and couldn't find someone who had experienced a perfect season. I'm willing to bet his ESPN colleague Matthew Berry has, but vertigo from watching his own Sunday morning mailbag has robbed him of the memory.

But I also have hard evidence that someone has in fact run the table, from start to finish, opening gun to Fantasy Bowl. And they did it in a 12-team league, run through Fanball.com and populated by Fanball employees--developers, programmers, admin folks, and the like. So these are folks at least somewhat familiar with fantasy football, not the kind of "me, my dog, and my inflatable friend" league where an unblemished record for the one knowledgeable entity is a regular happening.

Before I link you to the pride and joy of Team Menendez (our CTO Rudy and Director of Development Ed, as opposed to the incarcerated tandem of Lyle and Eric), I must first warn you that you may find some of the team names vulgar, and some of the language on the portions of the league message boards you are able to access offensive. Of course, nothing is as vulgar or offensive as listening to Rudy and Ed post their continuing success around Fanball World HQ… though if I had run the table I'd make sure to let folks know as well.

Anyway, I'm sure BSG will find it hard to believe someone has actually pulled off a fantasy football version of the '72 Dolphins (apropos, as Rudy is a major Fin fan). But it has been done.

...damn you'd get props forever if you managed to go undefeated in a league with all your buddys

I went 15-1 once and I had a ton of luck that year in that league. It must suck to go undefeated in the reg season and blow it in the playoffs.

Wow. Click on the fanball link and you can read their message board as the season was being played. I thought I was vulgar in my fanball league until I opened the link. Dude was an cocky sumbitch on his way to being undefeated. lol
