Mortal Kombat 1
Starfield, I guess? Not really sure what's coming out in the next few months.
Maybe Satisfactory update 8?
I'm playing Baldur's Gate III, and even in 2024 I'll still be playing Baldur's Gate III. Possibly in 2025 and on-wards. Despite many excellent games in the year this was always my most anticipated game of 2023. It's Larian.
Don't play many massive RPG games, but Larian Studios deliver a balance between story-telling/ gameplay few get right, and that makes it a perfect fit for me.
Many big name/ marketed RPGs in recent years don't live up to promises and early-impressions. Resulting in grossly linear, dumbed down systems, overall shallow and mediocre games; relying on showing off ray-tracing to win over the masses. It's tough to call some of those games RPG games at all.
BGIII is a game for people who enjoy experimentation, choice, and depth. Not for everyone, some people just want Assassins Creed on repeat, but at least BGIII is an RPG I can sink my teeth into without feeling like it's holding my hand. With every playthrough being drastically different on my build and choices.
Also helps that Divinity: OS II is one of the greatest SRPG games I've ever played, a game I go-back to often. BGIII uses a completely different rule-set, however its core is still very distinctly Larian Studios.
*Hoping Alone in the Dark (2023) will be a decent side diversion from BGIII too, for my Survival Horror kicks. Likewise with Armored Core VI, AC is my favorite From Software series (For Answer is better than Elden Ring) any other year I would be way more excited, but releasing the same year as full release BGIII knocks it down to side game.
Starfield. Just refreshing to get a new ip with a bit of depth, instead of superhero games that all look and play the same. Balders gate 3, but there seems to be a hell of lot of cinematics…maybe the last 2 games had it too though?
@sealionact: I'm on Act 2 of BGIII.
Cinematics to gameplay ratio is drastically in favor of gameplay.
Dialogue choice sections (which I assume you are referring to) are no different from an Elder Scrolls game or Fall Out and do not make the bulk of the experience. Star Field too has these if I recall_
Larian and Bethesda have very similar systems when it comes to dialogue. Branching paths that shape a playthrough, mission/ quest. They are both 'cinematic' if you want to look at it like that.
Overall I hope for the best those waiting for Star Field, but you need to keep in mind the last game Bethesda Studios gave you was Fall Out 76.
