My fellow gamers, if you were to tell me 2023 was gonna be this great, I would be like what?!?!

I must admit, every year is a good year for gamers but man, 2023 is shaping up to be the best year yet. This year, I have played: Dead Space Remake, Hi-Fi Rush, Resident Evil 4Remake, Dead Island 2, (maybe not score higher in MC but I still enjoy that game) Ravenlok, & Star Wars: Jedi Survivor have all surpassed my expectations. Forspoken though, that game is in a mixed for me, so it's in the middle how I feel about that game.

As were in June 2023 (at the current time of writing this) we're just in half of 2023 and I ask you this question? What new (or old) games have you played this year? Did they meet the expectations you were hoping for?

It's a great year but it ain't the best year. I don't think you can compare this to 1998 or 2001 and it's unlikely that there ever will be a year that good again.

It is a good year, I already bought a few of these. On the fence about RE4 and SF6.

It really has been a great year for games. We've seen a lot of releases, a lot of good games, and independent and small-scale development continue to do wonders in the field.

The only real sour note is that AAA games continue to decline in quality while pursuing trends and fads, though there are some exceptions.

There have been great years before, but I often wonder how much of that is nostalgia?

Does the release of Half-Life in 1998 alone make that year better than 2023 combined in its entirety? I admit I am tempted to say yes but that isn't really fair to 2023 and all the incredible games that have been released or put into early-access.

Yay, an optimistic thread!

Too much doom and gloom on here lately.

Yeah it’s definitely been pretty great so far and we still have another 6 months to go.

Arkane broke my heart and I'll never get over it but Hi-fi Rush, Metroid Prime and TotK made of 2023 a great year so far, for me. And there's still more to come.

Redfall was just a disappointing game coming from Arkane but definitely is not the worst game out there. Had a great concept of killing Vampires but it sure did need more time in the oven.

I'm just enjoying what's been released so far, not every AAA game is doomed & gloom.

Definitely been a great year so far with more to come such as Forza, Alan Wake 2, Pikmin, Starfield (even though it's not really my type of game but I'm still keen to check it out). Plus more I'm sure.

Contrarily, this year has been a dud for me so far because nothing has looked interesting. FFXVI and AC6 are the only two upcoming titles that I might buy.
