What is the worst video game you ever bought or played around a friends house?

Flash games or fan made games will not count in this question.

1. Why is it the worst game you ever played?

2. What console is the game on that you played it on?

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do?

4. How much did the game cost?

1. Why is it the worst game you ever played?

Dragon Quest Heroes

2. What console is the game on that you played it on?

PS4

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do?

Change the voice of Slime. Sounds like a whinny little girl not shutting up.

4. How much did the game cost?

Think it was £20. Sold it for £7.

1. Deadly Premonition

2. PS3

3. Gameplay needs to be smoother and more challenging, and the story needs to be less of a Twin Peaks knock-off

4. It was free on PS+, so I didn't lose out on money, thank God.

Darksiders 2. I played it on PS3. The problem with it is the terrible control. The camera is the worst I've played in any game, making it totally unplayable. And yes, there is a lock-on button... That's when it wants to work... On some bosses, it just doesn't. Everything else is mediocre at best. Instead fighting against great foes, the biggest foe it the camera.

Same as above. Followed closely by the Raiders of the Lost Ark game for Atari 2600.

Such a difficult question because if something’s bad, I move on rather quickly. I’ll have to go with biggest disappointment vs my anticipation of it.

Burnout Paradise.

360

Enclose the track like all the previous games because it’s extremely easy to get off it in a high speed race.

Full AAA price on launch day.

There was also a Castlevania game on the DS that was turn based instead of a platformer that I didn’t enjoy either.

1. Terminator

2. SNES

3. I wouldn't care to improve it. I'd just play Contra instead as it's clear it was trying to follow that formula and failed miserably.

4. IDK, my mom bought it for me back in like 94 or 95 so I'm sure it didn't cost that much.

Excluding those I hate such as Yandere Simulator and Hatred, I would say Horizon for PC. It's an 4x turn-based strategy game similar to Galactic Civilizations and Masters of Orion but it was too ambitious for its own good. I know it was made by an indie studio but it was broken, busted and buggy. Sometimes an enemy faction disappears into thin air. Sometimes your ships won't land on a planet without any explanation.

Usually don't like to remember the bad ones but some burn deep, like SuperMan 64 and Little Big Planet 3 stand out in my memory. Not sure if the worst but are among them.

Darksiders 2

Burnout Paradise

Destiny 2

While no raving fan of any of these games, I cannot help but roll my eyes at these entries. Seems like they've come from a dramatic point-of-view.

While it would be easy to target forgettable games such as D00M III, Biowares offerings, and even Sea of Thieves. They're not the 'worst' as such. . Just dissappointing/ underwhelming/ or even mediocre.

Which for discussion is worse I suppose, because when a game is bad everyone gathers together to burn the witch, but if it's "meh" it's better forgotten.

Three CastleVania games released on DS, not one of them was turn-based. Even the 3DS entry was a 'platformer'.

Infamous second son.

Ps4.

The game ends right after the end of the tutorial, paid full $59 for it.

i'd put some content on it.

Never been so angry about a purchase in my life.

I know I'm going to be accused of being a hipster or contrarian for this but in terms of games I've beaten and hated the ones that come to mind are Uncharted 2, Red dead Redemption, and Final Fantasy tactics. Persona 4 would probably end up my least favorite game I've played but I quit after the first dungeon. I found the characters insufferable and 4 hours of exposition was too much.

1. Why is it the worst game you ever played?

Had to think long and hard about this, but my answer is gonna be Doom 95 (I think that was its official name?)....or the very first Doom on PC.

2. What console is the game on that you played it on?

PC

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do?

There isn't really anything that can be done. It's not objectively the worst game I've ever played, just simply unplayable since I can't play more than 10 minutes without getting motion sickness. This is one of the very few games I tend to get motion sickness from...

4. How much did the game cost?

None. Came on a PC that I found on side of the road that someone discarded...

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan on the PS3. Not sure what it retailed at, I only rented it. I don't think there's much that could have made it anywhere near a good game. While it's probably far from the worst game out there, it's what I consider to be the worst I've played. Everything about it is so outdated. It's an on-rails shooter that might pass as an arcade game you put in a few quarters to play. But as an actual game released even on that generation of consoles, it's just laughable.

Final Fantasy 13.

Xbox 360.

Give the player actual control, instead of being a walking simulator.

$20?

2. What console is the game on that you played it on? PS3

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do? Remake the entire control system.

4. How much did the game cost? Came in a bundle I bought, but I smashed a PS3 controller I got so pissed playing this game, so $60.

3: Make it play more like other good fighting games but with cool robots

4: £30, maybe £40 back then? Thankfully rented it from blockbusters first.

Well, I actually noticed my mistake (which I made looking at how others answered that question) after I made my post. I just didn't feel the need to fix it seeing as I answered it responding to his 3rd question....

Seems rather silly to start off asking "WHY" without first knowing the "WHAT" though...

Honestly I am looking through my Steam collection and I can't find any bad games or even games I dislike. So I guess I will just list my most disappointing game, and folks please understand that I said disappointing, not bad, so don't roll your eyes at me or say "Oh he is just being dramatic" because I mean this.

God of War (PS4)

1. Why is it the worst most disappointing game you ever played in recent memory?

    • Disappointing pacing; one minute you're having a heart-to-heart with your son, then for some reason a bunch of zombies spawn where there were none before (how they spawn out of solid rock I don't know), then you're walking around for five minutes.
    • Visually, there's a lot of razzle-dazzle, but if you look closely it's pretty ugly. Bad textures, low polygon count...characters look good, though.
    • Lot's of cut-scenes and interruptions
    • Not immersive
    • Bad camera angle, too close to character. I am sure that was due to tech limitations, though; can't have too much going on screen at once.
    • Subjectively, it just feels like a father-son walking sim with random combat sequences.

2. What console is the game on that you played it on?

    • PS4

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do?

    • Use a different game engine that lends itself to a good art style, but can do more on screen. So instead of trying and failing at being visually stunning while limiting game play, instead be better suited for game-play and artistically pleasing.
    • Less cut-scenes
    • Less interruptions
    • Better pacing, more logical fight sequences.

4. How much did the game cost?

    • Thankfully I am three or four years late to the PS4 party, so I picked it up for about $25. I don't feel bad about not finishing it, gave it about 8 hours so far. I am chipping away at it slowly but god damn it's tedious.

1. Chiller

2. NES

3. I was a young boy at the time. It was so bad it almost made me cry. I begged my mother to return it and get me a new game.

4. It was a rental from a local video store.

It’s funny, that was over 30 years ago and I still remember how truly awful that game was. It was one of those carts that were not official Nintendo cartridges as well. I remember it was odd shaped and kind of a sky blue.

Battlefield, Medal of Honor, F.E.A.R. and Crysis sequels although you can mostly blame the last two examples on being consolized but COD dumbing down influence sure played a role. The Battlefield series is the greatest example of games destroyed by COD4 if you have play Battlefield 2 back in the day and see how the gameplay was slower pace and built on teamwork with no perks or regenerating health BS no gimmicks and now if you look at the new BF games of today it's basically COD with bigger maps and vehicles added. COD4 was a massive money success and other publishers saw the money so they dumbed down their games to appeal to the COD4 fans and that's when we started getting COD clone games. But hey I have nothing against people that like COD my problem is that it destroy other series in it's path maybe not intended but it started a horrible trend.

it's a bit unfair to say it destroyed a lot of great series. cod 4 was a pure cinematic arcade shooter, unrivalled in its delivery style at the time, and so spectacularly successful (and annually releasable) naturally it was influential, as you say.

but monolith have no-one to blame but themselves for fear. fear 2 was a short, shitty game with a senseless plot masquerading as a horror shooter. as the old saying goes - "repeatedly wheeling out a young faceless naked chick to create jump scares doth not a horror game make." fear 3 was even worse.

and crysis 2 was, as you say, more a victim of the platform than the game design, reduced more in scope and scale of the play area than the gameplay or the level length. i'd still take crysis 2's campaign all day long over black ops', it's nearest calendar based cod rival, which took linear gaming to a level of constriction never seen before, so tight and on rails it would make the uncharted games seem positively crysis-esque in comparison.

you're probably right about medal of honour, but the series was pretty much dead and buried after 07. battlefield's mp has definitely reduced in scope from the old days but i haven't played it in years so i can only really speculate.

anyway, it's all good, you're entitled to your opinion, but to me saying cod 4 is the worst game you've ever played because of the simplistic gameplay is a bit like complaining forza is crap because there's too much driving. sorry for picking you up on this stuff, but it's a more interesting discussion to me than what's been generated from this shit thread, with an op who immediately abandons ship never to be seen again every time he posts

1. Why is it the worst game you ever played?

Clive Barker's Jericho

2. What console is the game on that you played it on?

Xbox 360

3. If you had a chance to improve it. What would you do?

Its a game so linear I don't think it can be fixed BUT I would make the AI team mates more responsive and heal each other.

4. How much did the game cost?

$5.00 at a swapmeat.
