What would of happened to Counter Strike, Call of Duty, and Battlefield, had the original Team Fortress 2 been made?

So made on time and as a serious theme?

How would the gamming landscape have changed?

Did they make a huge mistake considering how big CS COD and BF are?

They had an absolute lead in the industry with half life one at the time.

Team Fortress 2 would probably have not become the huge juggernaut it became, and games like Battlefield Heroes and Overwatch would not have been made.

They made the right move going in the direction they did.

The market became saturated with modern military shooters (and historical); a light-hearted, class-based shooter with a Pixar-like cel-shaded aesthetic is exactly what we needed. And the huge success shows this.

Absolutely not. While other companies are competing in a saturated market for a finite group of gamers, Valve did their own thing.

Plus, they're not publicly traded. They just need to be profitable, they don't have to maintain unreasonable, infinite growth the way companies like Activision, Ubisoft, and EA do.

Also Valve owns CS, and sells COD and BF...

Well Team Fortress 2 has no where near the numbers sold for a single COD etc title let alone the whole series.

Its clear to me that they absolutely messed up in the worst way possible, in terms of games produced halflife 2 was lack luster compared to the original, and TF2 totally failed, it didnt capitalize on the ridiculous success and popularity of modern themed shooters.

So theyve gone form the it company, to just another company now, and probably lost hundreds of millions for their poor decision making process.

They did the right thing with TF2. They earn millions on it. Still do. In no way did they fail with it. To say TF2 failed because it didn't sell CoD numbers is all sorts of weird. Also highly doubt you have any numbers to back that up with.

Half-Life 2 is not lack luster. As most gamers would agree upon.

It's clear to me that you're wrong.

This post does not match our reality.
