Julien Ellis-Plante

Selection By Vancouver Stems Tide Of Tears
by Steve Ewen
Sports Reporter

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Vancouver Canucks' latest goaltender found himself going through the emotional wringer on his first day. Julien Ellis-Plante, ranked 10th among North American goalies by Central Scouting, was so upset he hadn't been taken by the sixth round Sunday that he had to leave his seat in the stands at the RBC Center.
The Shawinigan Cataractes backstop was wondering around the corridor of the rink when someone found him to tell him that the Canucks had used the 189th pick to select him.
By the time he met the media his eyes were still red from sobbing. He had begun to start smiling, though.
"I was ourside because I was so frustrated," and Ellis-Plante, 18. "I went outside to get some air, to breath a little bit.
"I am really happy to be drafted by Vancouver. When I heard, it was a good feeling."
Ellis-Plante saw his stock drop after stumbling at the Canadian Hockey League Prospects Game in January, allowing 4 goals on 14 shots. He wound up 32-18-2, with a 2.85 goals-agains average and a .903 save percentage for Shawinigan. He has tutored under Francois Allaire, the same coach that Patrick Roy and J.S. Giguere had.
Meanwhile, another canuck pick who didn't land accoring to prediction was David Schulz, a rearguard from the Swift Current Broncos who went 254th overall, after being pegged 93rd North American skater by Central Scouting.
His reputation for not playing a very phyiscal game, despite being 6'4" and 201lbs, may have been the problem.
Meanwhile, the Canucks' final pick, Danish winger Jannik Hansen, has been touted as one of the sleepers of the draft by the Red Line Report, a highly regarded independant scouting service. The speedster, who was picked the ninth round, 287th overall, may play junior in Canada next year, which would likely help his development.

Damn host sites aren't working but you can go to http://www.geocities.com/ohlund219/Plante.jpg to see his "red-eyes" hehe
Still red-eyed for the headshot.
Could he be a steal of the draft?

Yeah, they did a report on him on RDS, I felt so bad for the guy, especially because Loic Lacasse, who was his back-up at Antoine-Girouard in Midget AAA, got drafted before him !

Red-eyed? Went outside for a minute... hmmm... I wonder how the pot laws in Carolina
Just Kidding, he'll be a great team player who will always remember how fortunate he was to be drafted. Until his teammates nickname him Crybaby

Julien Ellis Plante has the nicest style I have ever seen in Quebec. He deserves A LOT better.

Good to hear he's held in high regards by you guys. Sort of lends more strength to Cherry's point that players shouldn't go to the draft.

Cherry said that...
This is a young players dream... to get drafted to the NHL and he thinks that? Its their day I totally disagree. Where you going to hear it the news that would suck I'd want to be the first to know.

He said that if you're going in the 1st 2 rounds for sure, then go... if you're on the bubble, it's not worth it.

What Lorne said, only really for players going after the first two rounds. I mean do players go to the Team Canada press confrence in hopes they make the team? No, they stay at home and wait for the call.

Well I could see the first and second round only going. but still It's their day they've waited their lives to for this it's a dream come true for most and you'd kind of want to be there on your day. Finding out you've made it to team canada is different I don't really know how to explain it.

anyways If they only had the first two rounds come I'd be fine with that, maybe they could actually show them both on tv as well. How would they do the other rounds though?
