Cooke, Sopel Re-Signed
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=89575 its on there some where...
Didnt actually know they were free agents.. but good to see Cooke resign and I guess Sopel is a good offensive defensemen... still doesnt mean he wont be traded. next up Sedins... who I hope dont accept their qualifiers and get long term deals... and Mo and Cloot... |

When I saw sopel getting signed on the ticker I was sad :(
BTW, I dont think Sopel is THAT bad anymore, I just think his trade value is wayyyyy bigger than how good he is. |

Good to see that Cooke's gonna be back here.
Not all that happy about Sopel, but he's definately not as bad as he's made out to be. __________________

Do ppl on this message board actually think Sopel is good? Cuz ppl over at Canucks.com are turning him into a Dan Cloutier favourite to pick on. He's not all that bad. He was our best offensive Defenseman last year.

I wouldn't go about calling him our best d-man, though. He's probably number three or four on that list. And Canucks.com...is a good place to see how far south the bandwagon has gotten. They used to have a pretty decent board with good posters, but ever since the Canucks became a contender (and coincidentally, the board was switched to phpBB), it's been downhill ever since. They'll rip on any player there for the simplest of things, and quite frankly, I can only keep my sanity for so long when visiting there...which is why I try not to visit there. :) I do have to admit, though, that the board's good for the comedy factor of proposed trades, like the entire top line of Colorado for Sopel and a draft pick, or just about any star player for the same (or previously, it was Letowski and a pick). ![]() |

Cooke and Sopel weren't free agents, the Canucks just picked up their club options on them. They just said re-signed on the ticker to be quick. Anyway obviously having Cooke back at a ridiculously cheap rate is awesome. For the Sopel haters out there it would make no sense for us to not pick up this option, as despite your constant insistence Sopel trade value is greater than a bag of pucks, especially at his salary.

Hold up i never said sopel was our best d-man it is obviously Jovo, and Ohlund.
I said he was our best Offensive dman last season... His offensive touch is getting better every year... so once he settles down with that and works a bit more defensively he will be a good player. __________________

Sopel isn't our best offensive defenseman, that's quite obviously Jovo. Sopel likes to pass it right up the middle at a snail's pace. Anyways, great to see Cooke is back for cheap, I was thinking we'd have to fork over 1 million plus to keep him around. I'm happy we resigned Sopel, there's no sense in letting him go despite how many giveaways he commits.
