There will be an AHL season, no matter what.

Well in that case, who knows?
It's probably a "just in case" thing, most of these guys seem to be doing that. |

I know a few NHL players have signed contracts over sea's, but are allowed to return to the NHL if there is a season

Yep, but Reid isn't one of them. In fact, the majority of players on the Canucks/Moose who have signed contracts to play overseas are there, lockout or no lockout. Artem Chubarov's the only one going over who will come back if the lockout ends, or if there isn't a lockout.

Seven players gone, either through retirement, or going overseas: Nolan Baumgartner -- Frankfurt (DEL) Dallas Eakins -- Retired Mikko Jokela -- Hämeenlinna (FNL) Jaroslav Obsut -- Luleå (SEL) Sean Pronger -- Frankfurt (DEL) Brandon Reid -- Hamburg (DEL) Sergei Varlamov -- Ak Bars Kazan (RSL) Add in Sylvain Blouin and Chris Nielsen, who weren't given qualifiers by Vancouver, and you have a team starting anew...at the most inconvenient of times (new arena opening). |
