Canada Names Replacement Players

Team Canada names replacement players

The deadline for injured players to declare themselves healthy is the start of training camp, August 21.

Sportsnet.ca -- With injuries a serious concern for Team Canada heading into this summer's World Cup, the team released a list of replacement players Friday who will be called upon should any gaps need to be filled for the tournament.

Forwards Keith Primeau of the Philadelphia Flyers and Vincent Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay Lightning and defencemen Bryan McCabe of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Scott Hannan of the San Jose Sharks and Jay Bouwmeester of the Florida Panthers will all be waiting by the phone should injuries prevent any Team Canada player from attending the World Cup.

Mario Lemieix is expected to be ready when the tournament begins at the end of August. Steve Yzerman, Rob Blake, Robyn Regehr and Shane Doan all remain questionable.

The deadline for injured players to declare themselves healthy is the start of training camp, August 21. The final Team Canada roster of 26 players must be declared at that time. Should any player suffer an injury during training camp, the team has until August 29 to replace him.

Good to see Primeau there, although I think he should have been there originally when the team was first named.

He didn't play because he had surgery specifically so he could be in playing condition for the World Cup.

Okay, nominated wasn't the word. Selected. But I can't edit my posts, so I hope no one noticed.

Shadow, he has the best active hockey player in the world. And why would he not try to make the season? The season is so much more important then the World Cup.

What's more important: your country or one of the worst teams in the league?

Risk yourself in 82 games of play just to finish in an unsatisfying season or play a small amount of games to lead your country to a proud victory on the world stage?

I hate Lemeuix. You don't bail on your team just to play in one tournament. And if leadership is his best quality maybe he should do something with the pens than complain to the city about fan support.
