exh. game Russia - Germany (56k HELL!) pics from today

i've been to the World Cup of Hockey game today at the Cologne Arena, Cologne. i sat in 3rd row behind the russian bench. 10500 watched the game, far away from a sellout crowd. well they missed an exciting game which ended in 3-3 tie. no Datsyuk and no Ovechkin in the roster today...
Russia had by far the better start and dominated the first period. Kölzig made some great saves, but couldn't prevent a PP goal from Samsonov. the german defense looked shaky and hade some bad give aways
in the 2nd period Team Germany seemed to have shaken off the rust and finally developed some offense mostly via the strong 1st line: Marco Sturm, Jochen Hecht and Marcel Goc. the latter was the scorer of the tying goal, using a nice cross crease feed from Christian Ehrhoff. Team Russia striked back with a nice wrister from Afanasenkov and even built up a 2 goal advantage through a nice wrap-around goal from Frolov (Kölzig should have had that one, IMHO).
half of the crowd today were Russians and they were cheering and waving their flags (and half of that half was totally drunk... ).
i thought that this could get ugly now, but then it was Marcel Goc again who fired up the german team. he scored a shorthanded goal in the 35rd.min! :D
in the 3rd period it was a mistake from the russian goaltender Alexander Fomichev (Novosibirsk/RUS), who helped Ehrhoff score the tying goal.
OT went scoreless, even though really pressured to win the game.
that's a very good result for our team who has such bad stats vs. Russia:
87 GP: 4W 80L 3T (i didn't know that before)

i liked the fighting spirit today and i hope they can show this team performance in the round robin matches. we won't be a match for the big teams, but we can make it damn hard for them....

best players Russia: Samsonov (created lots of chances), Kovalchuk (seems to get better in sharing the puck) and Afanasenkov (a played a good 2-way game), they need better goaltending and let's see if Ilya Bryzgalov or Maxim Sokolov (Omsk/RUS) provides it.
Team Germany: Marcel Goc (best talent we have and he had an awesome game today), Sturm (his speed and leadership is so important for the team), Seidenberg (solid game in the back)

some pics:
Olaf Kölzig

Ilya Kovalchuk

I hope Germany has a good showing.

They can't match the other teams in terms of skill, but if they play a tidy defensive game and Kolzig is solid, they might surprise a lot of people.

One thing they have to do, however, is can those jerseys.

I know they'll be wearing their Nike jerseys once the round robin gets underway, but those CCM ones look awful. ..Why would you place the stripes where they can't be seen properly?

What's the deal with those CCM jerseys, by the way?

Does the DEB have their teams wear them for amateur tournaments usually, or what?

I've seen those jerseys for sale on the net but I've never seen them worn at the World Championships or at the Olympics etc...
