Québec franchise terminated

The Founders of the World Hockey Association announced today that the league has terminated the franchise operating agreement with Jean-Paul Boily and the Québec Nordiks.

All players chosen by Québec in the July draft are now considered free agents.

The Founders have determined that Mr. Boily has been unable to secure adequate financing to the satisfaction of the World Hockey Association.

According to Co-Founder Allan Howell, "Mr. Boily has come to the league on numerous occasions requesting special financial concessions and we have always agreed because of our desire to have Québec as part of the WHA. The fans of Québec deserve WHA hockey and we will now explore all options to make this a reality."

The WHA expects teams to begin play in late November in as many as eight markets.

Glad to see the Nordiks will never set foot on ice. However, this just furthers my thinking that they league probably won't either...
