It's not like they have much to lose. They're been outplayed badly in their first two games so they might as well try something different and give players who haven't played yet a chance to play

i'll never understand all the traitor comments... if i were 1/2 canadian and half american, and team USA told me I was "too fat and slow to play hockey", but canada offered me a spot... i'd play for canada in a heart beat.

besides, if i were going to represent a US State, i'd probably represent a team TEXAS more than a massachusetts... sure i was born in salem, but i didn't live there long.

I was going to say something like that, but I obviously didn't. Most hockey players just want to play, and if your first choice isn't going to pick you for their team then you move on and see who else you can play for. In General, Hull only plays in the biggest international tournaments which means it has the best players in the world playing in them. Why should he sit out just becasue Canada won't play him and USA will

If Hull had played all his life for Canada and then woke up one day and said I'm going to go play for USA then I could see why people might have a problem with it, but he never did play for Canada

He's the traitor?

It's your dubmass country who didn't want him Same with Deadmarsh.

I hope the scratch Halpern, and ESPECIALLY scrath that waste of ****ing oxygen Gomez.

Why the USA didn't get Marchant and/or York on the team is beyond me.

I think initially, the issue was that Hull wasn't going to be considered as a marquee player when he was first invited to be part of the international squad. Being overshadowed by guys like Lemieux, Gretzky, Messier, etc was something he didn't care for, and wanted to be more of a headliner than a role player.

If you had dual citizenship, and had the ability to choose between being a superstar with all the perks on one team, and a fourth liner with limited playing time and say in the direction of the team on-ice, where would you go? Especially if your character is one that relishes in being in the spotlight like the Golden Brett.

I have no ill will towards Hull for playing for the US. It just raises the caliber of hockey for the States and made them more competitive and added more spark to the US/Canada rivalry. I dunno if you remember the Canada Cups from the 80s, but the US sucked ass back then. Now they're perennial contenders. that's good for North American hockey.
