Bauer 5000 Lids

Review Title: Bauer 5000 Lids
Date: March 22, 2005

Rating (Out of Five)

Durability and Comfort (Out of Five):
Durability:
Comfort:

Advantages: A very protective helmet that tremendously reduces the risk of concussion.

Disadvantages: None that come to mind. This is a durable helmet that has maximum protection.

Main Point: The Bauer 5000 helmets provide a peak performance player with the protection and comfort that he or she needs to play at their best.

Complete Review:
Not trying to stray away from my review of the 4000 helmet, I will say that I am more impressed with the results of its 5000 model. I have seen it in use by a few players this season and not once have I experienced any crack or even had any repairs on it. The 5000 provides a snug fit to protect while maximizing the comfort level for a player. I have not used this model personally but I haven’t had a complaint out of any of the guys in it.

Conclusion: I still prefer a Bauer 4000 over the 5000 but that’s just a players preference. If you’re looking for a helmet that’s going to keep the eggs from getting scrambled upstairs then I would highly recommend this dome. It’s built to last and it should last any consumer a few good seasons.

I've had 3 4000's and 2 5000's over the years. I had to start playing with a 4000 this year because it was what my high school team wears. They are good helmets, but I don't think they are anywhere near as good in the protection sector as the 5000. I find that the 4000s crack very easy around the bolt to snap your facemask in and that causes the helmet to loosen up considerably. I've broke 2 4000s over the years and have never had a problem with the 5000.

I recently switched over to a 5000 from a CCM HT500 or HT400 or one of those models. The difference is astounding. The CCM rarely fit right, I always was messing with it during the game. It was tool big from front to back and too tight on the sides. When I went to get a new helmet I was planning on the CCM 652 originally, but didn't find one at the store I went to. On a whim I figured I'd check out the Bauer helmet. I was surprised at the difference of the design on the inside. Whereas the CCM just had basic foam throughout, the Bauer had softer foam spots at critical points. I tried it on and it fit so beautifully. Now I've got a helmet that fits snugly, but is plenty loose enough not to cause any pain. It's a fantastic helmet.

The 4000 is nothing compared to the 5000. The performance gel that is used in the concussion helmets is head and shoulders above the regular foam used in the 4000s.

Bottom line is, its well worth the money to upgrade to the 5000 because its much more comfortable and protective than other models.

I guess a disadvantage is bulkiness, but its not really an issue if you compare to CCM helmets

The 5000's always will be the King of helmets in my opinion. I used one one for the last few years of actually playing in an organized hockey league. It was so comfortable and durable. Mostly everyone in my league converted to the 5000s by the time it came out. Plus, it looks awesome. The gel feels amazing, and the little things on the side that let you adjust the helmet are awesome as well. The only problem I ever had with the 5000 was the fact that I had a black one while the rest of my team who had 5000s had white ones. Black ones were cooler anyway. :)

The 5000 is the best combination of old school style helmet style and New age technology. It doesn't look overly stylized, like the 8000 (which I found many people don't like; Barely any high level players wear them), and it maintains a traditional look.
