Tape: Fact or Fiction?

Does it really matter if you use black or white tape on your stick? The story I've heard a lot through my career in hockey is players should use black tape (harder for us goalies to see the puck) and goalies should use white (so we can find the puck easier on our blade).

To be honest, I find NO difference at all which colour your damn tape is, I see the puck either way, but what's your opinions on this?

I have never put that much stock in it, but it certainly cant hurt. It may only make a slight difference at the most, but still probably is a very small advantage.

"Let’s face it. Canada is still upset that Nashville has a hockey team. That’s just the way it is, and we have to live with that. It was frustrating because I know where ground zero of where those rumors always started. If the sun shines, you can’t have hockey. I’m a little bitter about that. I’m tired of hearing about it." - Craig Leipold, Nashville Predators owner

I dont know, I think its true... but then again - does it make a HUGE difference, i dont think so. Goalies wont have a problem noticing a puck on your stick, maybe in the odd case it throws them off but not often im sure.

I've got one stick with black tape and one with white, so obviously i dont think it makes that big of a deal - plus by the time the goalie picks himself up after i deke his pants off it doesnt matter if he saw the puck or not ;)

Ive recently been using white tape on my stick and for an odd reason like it better (it could just be the looks).

I used white tape (well not always white sometimes green, or red, but that's basically beside the point ) so that I could see the puck easier on my stick because I haven't had so many years of practice skaing without looking down at the puck. I found it helped somewhat and probably more than if I had black tape.

I don't think it's a matter of Fact or Fiction more of "What works best for you"

Considering Bobby Orr used either a very thin strip or no tape whatsoever on his stick, I wouldn't put much faith in using a certain color to fool the goalie.

Yup, I see a puck, not a tape colour.
