Roller hockey skate question
I recently bought a pair of Bauer inline skates and I'm wondering if they're supposed to feel pretty snug or a little loose? The guy at the store said they should feel pretty snug as in the toes should be brushing against the tip of the skate. But I read somewhere that Bauer skates should be about 1.5 sizes smaller than your normal shoe size. I wear size 10.5 shoes but the skate I ended up buying is size 8 because I felt that size 9 was sort of loose and my toes could wiggle around pretty freely. Would these size 8 skates feel a lot more comfortable after I break them in or should I consider exchanging them for size 9's? Thanks.

Use whatever feels better. Skates are better when they're snug, but you don't want anything that's going to kill your foot.
Skate sizes do vary, last time I went to Perani's the guy showed me a chart that compared everything, shoe size, then what that size would be in Mission, Bauer, CCM, Nike, some other brands. I don't remember the exact numbers but they did vary quite a bit. I'd suggest not thinking about the size and just goin with what feels better. I wear an 11 shoe and I have a size 9 skate, it's a bit loose but I couldn't do the size 8 at all. The size 8 skate will break in a bit, but if you feel it's too painful go for the 9s. Remember you can wear thicker socks, or more pairs of socks, whatever. If I were you I'd go back and try on the size 9 with two pairs of socks on, tie it as tightly as you can and if it's still too loose, you should probably stick with what you have. |

Like Slapshot said, you gotta go with whatever feels right. Personally speaking, I don't like to quite have my big toe touching the end of the skate. I always slam my heel back and make sure it touches the end and then have my toes a little bit back from the front.
I always felt that the width is more important then the length though. I could never wear Nike skates because they were always too wide for my foot. Maybe something to consider for the next time you get a new pair. |
