Nike Bauer Vapor goalie gear
I am thinking about getting the Nike Bauer Vapor X competitive pads, to play around in and get used to being a goalie. They look comfortable and reliable, I was just wondering what reviews you guys might have on these. I'm getting the pads, blocker, and trapper. The only thing I am really worried about is the thin face on the blocker.
I searched and didn't really find anything for reviews as far as these pads go. Also, if you guys have any idea of a better set of pads for around the same price, let me know. |

if youre just getting into goaltending, i would recommend a set of tps (senior xhale, xceed) or even senior rbk 7k pads. they are pretty cheap sets of pads and are big on quality and comfort. i have never liked bauer pads and with nike i dunt think they will improve much wrt comfort.

a lotta the new blockers are shaped like that. im assuming they work, probably newer technology that allows it to be thin and light but still stop the puck.

Bauer pads were terrible without Nike and they can only get worse with them. Stay away from Bauer. I recommend rbk supremes absoloutely THE best pads available not quite sure about the newer ones although alot of NHL goalies are using them.

The only ice hockey goalie pads ive ever wore were RBK 7K and brian's beast blocker and trapper. The glove was iffy but the blocker was very light and was comfy, the pads were also very comfy and seemed easy to get around on. Im just a plyer and im not an expert on goalie gear.

The only knock on the Vapor stuff is the fact that its REALLY lightweight. So if you're used to heavier pads, it may take a bit to adapt. The blocker isn't bad - the thinner face isn't too noticeable - just on really booming shots - if you catch it right on the face of the blocker, you'll rattle a bit.
I can't vouch for the pads ingame - I only used the blocker. I tried the demo pads on at a pro shop and found them pretty light. __________________

Might be a little late but...
You don't need this equipment if you're just getting started with being a goalie. I wouldn't even recommend buying brand new stuff. You're probably talking about 1,200 for this stuff and you can get better just the same with some used equipment. Sure you wont look as nice but whatever. When you actually develop a style and really know what you want then you might want to go with a new set. |
