Do you mean like feathering him in there, cause essentially he is the background, but by blending i think you mean making look more seemless...

Hey, i gave that tutorial a try a while ago too. Liked the outcome of the guy who made it. Not crazy about my outcome, but here's mine.

I think its relativley easy with a pretty cool outcome... I know mines not the best but I like the way it turned out... If you know of any other tuts on gimptalk.com you think are worth a good look let me know...

Just add more to the background and it'll look great, not bad at all though.
