SportsGamer's Madden 09 Power Rankings
Now that the draft has passed, I've been working an article to release early power rankings for madden teams. List your power rankings and give some insight on why you think they'll be ranked that why.
Here is the first part of the article. Teams 32-28 Teams 27-23 Teams 22-18 Teams 17-11 Teams 10-1 |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
Question. This might sound retarded but what exactly is a power ranking? Does that refer to a team's rating? A players' strength? Or just a ranking of a player as a whole?

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
nah power rankings are ranking the teams from 1-32 in where you think they'll be rated in madden. Example,
1. Pats- Because Randy Moss is unstoppable in madden. 2. Colts-Their offense is too good and defense is to fast. 3. 4. . . . 32. Dolphins-Because they still lack any real weapons. These are rankings for Madden ,not how you think the real NFL season will play out. |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
Here's my list, I'll just do comments for the top 10.
1) Patriots - Moss is still the most dangerous player in Madden. Doesn't hurt to have #12 slingin the rock. 2) Chargers - Big WR's are always dangerous in Madden and SD has tons of them. Throw in LT and a good D and this team lacks any major weakness. 3) Cowboys - Mobile, accurate QB. Studs at all skill positions. Additions in the draft should pay big dividends Madden-wise. 4) Steelers - Limas Sweed fills in a huge hole for this offense and will be an impact player right away. Big Ben is one of the best QB's in the game with his arm strength and mobility. 5) Giants - No question will get love from EA as the reigning champs. Burress remains a top target and we can only imagine how crazy their pass rush could be after that Super Bowl performance. 6) Colts - High powered offense and speed on defense to make things happen. 7) Jaguars - Lack a top end playmaker at WR, but they do have size. Great running game at defense with some potential pass rushers added through the draft. 8) Browns - Stallworth adds a deep threat to an already high powered offense. 9) Eagles - McNabb makes their offense go. They lack a great, tall WR option, however they do have plenty of speed on offense with Westbrook, Curtis, rookie Desean Jackson, and even LJ Smith at the TE spot. Also, should hav 10) Vikings - AD will be near unstoppable behind that beastly OL. Berrian helps outs their WR's, however Tarvaris Jackson really hurts their offense. With a better QB, they could be even higher up the list. 11) Saints 12) Packers 13) Jets 14) Panthers 15) Bengals *asumming Chad Johnson is still there 16) Cardinals 17) Bills 18) Redskins 19) Broncos 20) 49ers 21) Texans 22) Rams 23) Seahawks 24) Raiders 25) Chiefs 26) Lions 27) Bucs 28) Ravens 29) Titans 30) Dolphins 31) Bears 32) Falcons __________________ ![]() Last edited by DNEUM. : 05-05-2008 at 07:22 PM. |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
Took some time to do it with explanations. This is based on madden and not my actual real life rankings.
1. Chargers- Is the best team position by position as well features perhaps the most dynamic player in LT. Added corner depth in the draft, the one team without a hole to be exploited. 2. Steelers- Two huge weapons added on offense at key madden skill positions. Big Ben is coming off a franchise record in TDs and should get a high rating. Parker is one of the fastest starting backs in the game and now you have Mendenhall as well, play them on the field at the same time? Rumour has it they will in real life, dangerous. As for defense they had the leagues number 1 Def last year and improved by getting a purebreed passrusher. 3. Cowboys- Bigtime offense hasnt lost a beat and is perhaps even better. Solidified D with two corners in pacman and Jenkins as well as signing big Zach Thomas to clog the middle. I wouldnt be surprised by looking at the rosterif the "Boys" have the most weapons in the game. 4. Patriots- The best offense in the game, defense leaves much to be desired. Aside from Mayo there is no speed at LB and they lost their 2 starting corners leaving them easily exploitable. 5. Browns- Little bit of a surprise here but in Madden they deserve it. They have a great offense with a group of tall talented WRs that got richer with Stallworth. On defense brought in established vets that unlike rookies immediatley have a high rating. 6. Colts- That offense really attacks the depth of a defense and creates mismatches. 7. Bears- Vaunting defense that should rank high, new weapons at receiver add speed and of course Hester can make an impact on either side of the ball. 8. Giants- Burress is a bigtime threat however the offensive rating depends on Eli's rating which could range a fair bit and the future of Shockey with the team. 9. Vikings- Would be much higher if not for a huge hole at QB, I mean really Tavaris Jackson, time for coach Childress to admit defeat on that one. AD is one of the best backs (poss should have been cover) and has a stellar o-line. The already good defense got alot better with the addition of Allen off the edge. If you can tolerate a one-dimensional offense the Vikes are solid. 10. Saints- Great offseason acquisitions in Vilma and Morgan as well as bigtime DT Sedrick Ellis. On offense the weapons are there including the ever-overated Reggie Bush. 11. Jags- Great running attack duo of Drew and Taylor along with a stiff defense that added pass-rushers Harvey and Groves. My question mark remains on the aireal attack, David G at QB is unsettling and the bargain bin WRs leave much to be desired. 12. Eagles- Speed on Offense with Westbrook and Jackson, MacNabb dishin the ball. Great secondary 13. Packers- The ever overated Favre is gone but not out of sight. The team undeniably overachieved last season and can you really expect more than a 75-80 rating for new QB Aaron Rodgers having not played many snaps? 14. Seattle- Solid lineup up and down but not very dynamic on either side. 15. Ravens- defense is aging but still has weapons in Madden. The offense is lackluster but McGahee will manage a decent rating more due to his Madden Bowl victory than play last season. 16. Bills- Abit of a surprise here but the Bills have the best group of young talent in the elague and along with that comes speed. Edwards, Lynch, Evans, Hardy, Parrish, Poz, McKelvin, Whitner, Simpson and thats without listing their vets. 17. Titans- The Tennessee Vince Youngs...I mean the Tennessee Titans have... Vince Young. 18. Panthers- Despite a bad year this is still a very good team with the likes of Peppers, Smith and Stewart. Pretty solid team. 19. Slowly becoming a very good team. Lack of weapons and stars will affect their use in Madden. 20. Raiders- Yea its surpsirng but on Madden they will have a good team. Russell has a big arm, Run DMC will get a good rating, Walker will get a good rating at WR despite coming off injury, DeAngelo Hall will be amongst the best corners and so on. The new addition however will help more in Madden than in real life- retire already Al Davis. 21. Texans- I almost put them alot higher. A great young defense lead by sackman Mario Williams. Slaton will add some speed to the offense. Exciting at some position but dead at others. 22. Lions- That offense is lloking good and the defense acquired some key guys including Bodden. 23. Cardinals- Bigtime offense and talented WRs. Dfense is a liability. 24. Redskins- How many WRs do you want? 25. Buccaneers- QB and RB situations in limbo, among others. 26. Bengals- This is really dependent on Chad Johnson as without him the Bengals offense looks very poor and the defense isnt much 27. Broncos- Speed on defense along with Champ bailey is nice. Cutler lost Walker but still has Marshall. 28. Cheifs- Huge draft with Dorsey, Albert and Flowers however the real value comes with Larry Johnson at RB, Dwayne Bowe at WR, Tony G at TE. 29. Rams- Bulger, Jackson, Holt. 30. 49ers- San Fran fans better show their love to PWilly and FGore cause that al they have... 31. Dolphins- Ronnie Brown and if Jason Taylor stays thats something. 32. Falcons- Oh boy. Last edited by BigBadDice_22 : 05-05-2008 at 03:57 PM. |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
this is a great thread!!!
like previously stated, the Bears need to be much higher. Yes, they have no QB, definite RB o stud WR's but their D is still stout despite having an injury plagued year. You just grind out wins like the real life team does. I see them a middle of the pack team. |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
My top 5 (in no order)
Cowboys- They will have speed and power at RB, a mobile QB, tall fast WR's with Owens and Crayton, 2 good corners and good linebackers. Pats- Great offense, defense lacks Steelers-Kinda like the boys they will speed and power at RB, mobile qb, Limas Sweed at WR and one of the best D's on the game. Chargers- Tall WR's, one of the best if not the best all-around RB on the game, good defense Now, this is my darkhorse pick I guess you could say Raiders- Big strong armed QB, 2 tall WR's including Javon Walker, I'm sure McFadden will probably a little overrated, and that D has been good for like 2 years madden wise they are fast and they added and they added DeAngelo Hall Teams I will be using- Cowboys + Raiders __________________ ![]() GeTChAxPoPCoRn |

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
The Bears have absolutely nothing on offense Madden-wise aside from Hester. Especially if Benson gets the boot after getting arrested. I hold a lot more stock in offenses on Madden than defenses because defenses don't make near the impact on Madden. Now that I think about it a little more and look it over I would move them ahead of Atlanta, but as far as Madden is concerned I would much rather have the Dolphins. Ginn Jr. pretty much is the same as Hester plus you have a decent tall WR in Wilford and Ronnie Brown as well which is more than what the Bears have IMO.

Re: Madden 09 Power Rankings
Here goes my rankings fellas:
1. Pats- As long as Brady to Moss is available the New England Gaytriots will be loved by cheezers and Deusche Bags galore 2. Colts- Peyton Manning and Bob Sanders are the best in the business at what they do and keep the offense and defense running at all cylinders respectively 3. Cowboys- The offense is aging but the addition of Felix Jones gives them a lot more speed and Pacman and Felix returning kicks looks pretty good 4. Chargers- LT, Merriman, Cromartie, Rivers, Chambers, Gates, Castillo, Phillips, J. Williams..... 'Nuff Said 5. Viks- With All Day Peterson, a scrambling/big arm qb, the addition of Berrian, and the best O-Line in the game as well as a solid D, Minnesota looks top 5 Madden worthy 6. Steelers- w/ Sweed and Mendenhall on O and the already dominant D 7. Giants- as stated they'll get the SB winner love from the geeks at EA 8. Saints- already stellar O adds Arrington from Michigan; D adds Sedrick Ellis at DT and Vilma behind him I see the saints as a contender in Madden and Reality 9. Bears- Top 5 D in the game, 2 receiving TE's, additions at WR in Bennett(will be a poss. Weapon mid-way through season) and Monk(6'6” with 4.4 speed), and a 6'2” 222 lb. RB in Forte come on guys... 10. Raiders- Solid D and the addition of DMC and J. Walker will only help J. Russell....... IN MADDEN 11. Titans- Vince Young w/ Lendale, Chris Johnson, and a pretty good D 12. Jags- Garrard proved he could be a starter and his rating will be good enough to take pressure off the running game, add their D and they should probably be ranked higher than this 13. Broncos- Champ Bailey makes this D, w/ out him they'd be 25 or lower; Cutler, Marshall, and....... make this a decent O 14. Browns- Awesome O including line and a D that can get the job done 15. Seahawks- with J.J. In the backfield the Hawks should be looked at as a run first then pass team w/ Hasselbeck aging 16. Buccaneers- aging but talented D and a questionable passing game make the Bucs one of those “Who Knows” picks 17. Bills- young talent and speed always prevail in Madden and both Buffalo's offense and defense have this......look out their circling the wagons in Buffalo 18. Packers- kinda like the bucs; solid running game, solid but aging D and questionable qb 19. Eagles- Samuel improves the already good D and McNabb and Westbrook can carry the Offense 20. Bengals- Suck ass D but Ocho Cinco, Palmer, and Houz yo Mama make the O one of the top 7 21.Cardinals- Decent O where a pure passer can have a field day and a decent D w/ addition of Dominique R. Cromartie 22. Ravens- Flacco will make some plays for their O but i'm not sure if McGahee can take over a game against a top 10 D; Ed Reed and Ray Lewis still make their own D one of the best 23. Rams- losing Bruce could hurt them but I think Bulger, Jackson, and Holt can get the job done 24. Panthers- additions of Otah, Stewart, and Dan Connor are really growing on me but until I actually sit down and play with them i'll have em graded low because the D is definitely not the same as it used to be 25. Redskins- sorry skins fans but w/ out Sean Taylor, Washington no longer worries me on D Landry will fill the void but it won't be the same; with the draft they greatly improved their O so they'll likely move up the rankings when I see the complete 09 rosters 26. Chiefs- additions of Dorsey and Albert will be helpful but still no answer at QB or WR and the D isn't halfway great 27. Lions- poor D IMO along w/ a passing attack headed by Jon Kitna??? HAHAHA 28. Texans- besides their D the only things that stand out on O are Andre Johnson and their TE, Steve Slaton won't be enough to help the Texans be a monster in Madden 29. 49ers- Could be a lil higher but only weapons are the reigning DROY Willis, Mr. Gore, and a beast TE in Davis 30. Jets- The addition of Gholston looks nice but losing Vilma and an aging offense make 31. Falcons- Norwood and White are the only playmakers this team has on Offense and the fact they traded their BEST all-aroun player on the team in Deangelo Hall makes me wonder who in the hell would use the Dirty Birds other than to just throw Matt Ryan in to see what he can do 32. Dolphins- as Fred pointed out no weapons that scare you; you'd find more weapons on a Dade County Elementary playground than u would on this Dolphins roster __________________ I'm higher than a jet wit 2 ki's and ten white bitches!!!
