Draft day trades!

i have not seen this mentioned anywhere, so i'll post it: draft-day trades are in.

playing in my franchise, i ended up with the 31th pick in the first round (we got routed in the super bowl)...i scouted mostly guys who were projected as 2nd rounders, because i figured that there wouldn't be much left at #31, but when it was my turn to pick, the WR who i had my eye on (2nd-3rd projected) was still about 8-9 guys down on the WR list.

i remember that EA had promised us draft-day trades (along with draft audio), so i checked the trade screen....and they let me trade picks :)

pretty cool, i ended up trading down from #31 to the mid-2nd round, was able to get the guy i wanted, and ended up with an extra 4th rounder.

probably nice to have later in the draft when there isn't really anyone left that looks good, too , i guess you could trade your 6th and/or 7th for some young backups, or cheap roster filler.

The thing I love but most people will hate is that some of your 1st round picks will suck ass! I draft a LT in the first round and he was projected for the 1st round too, but after I signed him he was a 58 OVR...yet another lineman I got in the 5th round was a 69 OVR, I love this new draft system, not every first rounder works out and you can find gems later on in the draft....it makes rookie scouting so much more important than last year...if people bitch about this they have no business playing owner mode.

I never scout, I just skip right over it and go straight from re-signs to the draft. So far I have not picked anyone that has surprised me ratings wise. All 1st round picks have been mid 70s with one in the low 80s. I've have done probably close to 20 drafts so far between the PS2 and the PC versions.

Both versions have their good points. I like like PC version because it's 100x faster for simming games. I like the PS2 version better because I can import the real rookies from NCAA. The Williams (Reggie and Roy) turn out to be beasts. Roy gets a higher rating but I like Reggie better, he's bigger, faster, and stronger.

This year's trade logic is a lot tougher. Many times I find myself swearing at the TV or computer yelling "WTF do you guys want for this guy?" A lot of times I feel like I'm giving more than I'm getting...darn CPU is pretty stingy this year.
